Archbishop of San Francisco has banned Democratic Speaker of the House of Representatives from receiving the Catholic Eucharist.

In his letter to Nancy Pelosi he states: "A Catholic legislator who supports procured abortion commits a manifestly grave sin."

Is President Biden next?   Will the pope comment?

Wikipedia:  "All dioceses and archdioceses, and there respective Bishops and Archbishops, are distinct and autonomous".

So, his decision would only have effect within his jurisdiction.  Even then, there could be an ambitious priest wishing to curry favor with the rich and powerful and administer the ritual for Pelosi privately.  Who knows?  The church and its political lovers are so corrupt , Pelosi has probably thought of a way she can get even with this archbishop.

Apparently, those who do not take communion are destined for hell.  So, there's that  .    .

Well - That didn't take long !

The San Francisco Examiner's editorial board wrote a scathing rebuke of the archbishop.

Quote:  "We repeat the call for Pope Francis to remove him and replace him with a leader who can unify rather than divide. Cordileone's radical conservative politics may attract more people to the faith in Oklahoma or Texas, but his partisan pomposity will win no converts in San Francisco".

So, who will win this battle?  The church or the politician?  (They used to be such good friends! lol)

Most recently - The Catholic Bishops in Colorado, USA have published an open letter asking politicians who voted in favor of an abortion law to "voluntarily refrain from holy communion".

From w19 October pp. 14-19  "We do not know what reasons the nations might give to justify their attack on Babylon the Great. They might say the world's religions are an obstacle to peace and that they constantly meddle in politics."   This is where I think the whole communion drama is heading.
