Royal Caribbean cruise - Vision Of The Seas - Dec 16 - Dec 26

Recommended Posts

Hey all!

Is there anyone else here going on the Royal Caribbean cruise out of Fort Lauderdale for Dec 16 - Dec 26 on the Vision Of The Seas?

Once we went on a cruise that had over 50 JWs on board!  Turned out there's a group in Nevada that used to go every year.  Don't know if they do anymore.  But anyways, would be cool if we had a group on the ship.

We use to cruise a lot and there were several times we joined groups from our area and several times we have run into groups from other areas. Its a lot of fun. However, we are not planning to cruise this year.

1 week to go before my cruise!  Anyone gonna be on this one (see initial post)???

When we cruised a lot we found that the first part of December was a perfect time to cruise the Caribbean. The prices were low, it wasn't crowded and the weather was good. The only drawback was an occasional holiday decoration.

Just an update on COVID on my Royal C, cruise in November.

We had zero cases on board, felt very relaxed and normal, while other ships were reporting a very different situation, even 800 cases.
So it is hit and miss scenario when it comes to cruising at the moment.

On my, Greg!  I probably saw you in Sydney disembarking!?  I walked right past the Quantum of the Sea.  Made a huge diversion to avoid any nasty covid (remembering the Ruby Pricess 🙄).  And the next day another cruise ship docked with the 800 covid cases.  Near miss.

My cruising days are over.  Not in the least bit interested now, but it was fun back in the day.  Hoping you have a relaxing time Jeremy!

Because of Covid? O generally you don't feel like it? It's fun in the group.

I’ve never done cruises, but know some who go every year and often post pics on FB.

I was recently watching a news report that shows that there are really no law and order on cruise ships. No laws can necessarily be enforced because of traveling on different seas and different countries. It showed sadly that rapes occurring to drunken passengers and even a few times murder in cabin rooms, and mysterious overboards were not followed up because there are really no police or jurisdiction on cruise ships. Also why some ships get registered and insured from tiny, insignificant countries that really can’t enforce laws. Quite eye-opening.

Never ever encountered any above problems on the cruises I have been on, either in Europe or Pacific Ocean. Felt safe and looked after (I have been on 7 cruises with different companies) I love cruising …

But I prefer to be on the water in some of these, especially tall ships. They just have the majestic look about them.

We stayed overnight in Hamburg similar to that last ship. It was a fun accommodation for the kids and families one night.

That’s great! I guess the closest I’ve been to cruising was when I held a formal dance and dinner party on a ship for one night in Toronto. Happened to be fireworks (and my birthday 😇 ) on the same night. The workers were so impressed with everyone’s conduct that they wished everyone was like that. An elder and his band played also live jazz.

I think I know some of that group if they’re from Northern Nevada. Some of them just got back from a cruise.

Not much about a cruise appeals to me, especially in the age of COVID, but I’ve never gone so I try to keep an open mind. I’d rather have a bit more freedom in itinerary, destinations, time to explore, time to get away from the tourist destinations, a chance to get away from tourists, time to go find some less photographed destinations and take pictures, opportunity to find local street cuisine and try it, etc.

I can see the appeal of having so much of a vacation taken care of though and just have time to relax and enjoy the time away.

A cruise is like having a sample plate of food, it gives you an opportunity to taste a little of several places so you can decide if you want to visit them again later.

For me, cruise is time to switch off.

I never buy internet while cruising.

I try to book comfy cabin with balcony so I can chill out on the balcony as well. (Interior cabins are good value, but not for me)

Instead I pack good books, iPad with preloaded movies etc..

No other holiday offers me unwinding as cruise.

So personally destinations that cruise goes to, is a bonus for me and not primary reason why I go on the cruise.

If I want holiday for "destinations" reason" I fly in,  and explore on "foot' so to speak.
