NW Scheduler/Publisher - Updates, Support, and Suggestions

Its more the fascination people have with dark mode. When I see comments about it its not just an announcement that dark mode is available but its "Wow it has dark mode" or "I love the dark mode." Ok so you like dark mode. So what? I like light mode but you don't see me saying "Wow I just love the light mode." I understand some might like dark mode and may actually need it. But feeling giddy about it is what I don't understand.

Brother, before this gets too far into the weeds, I rarely use dark mode, but I know some friends do. I posted that dark mode was a new feature on NWP because I knew that many here would appreciate the new feature. Please show Jehovah that you love your brothers and let them enjoy the new feature.

Giddy is not the accurate word here, it's appreciative. Light mode is nothing new. It's the default, the norm, the standard. Dark mode is a new feature and many appreciate that new feature greatly.

My thoughts exactly. Appreciative is the word for sure. Perspective may come into play, some simply find joy in the little things in life. The older I get the more I try that approach.

My wife tells me: 'Wag more, bark less' 😀

Go to Congregation > Groups and Families > Families. There you can select the names in the right Column and add them to the middle Column. On top there is a dropdown list where you can select the option Widow or one of the other options.

Also, in the Persons section and Information Tab you can create Families and link persons to Families. They will also be displayed in the Families Tab.

Hope this helps.

Do not accuse me of not loving the friends. I typed out several paragraphs and then deleted them. I will just leave it at that.

How about "overly excited." That is what it seems to me because there have been plenty of new features but none compare to the excitement of dark mode in my opinion. I was just wondering why there seems to be more excitement over it than other features.

I should add that its not just here where I have seen the excitement. My question was more general than about NWP specifically. There may not have been that much excitement here specifically. It just added to what I am already seeing elsewhere. So its not why are people excited here on this topic about NWP. Its more general than that and widespread. So apologies for not being clear.

I also feel that if so many people are excited about dark mode and I am not then I must be missing or not understanding something and I don't want to be left out.

I don't know why people love dark mode.

Br.  Floyd, my answer given earlier was not a criticism of your view.  I was simply answering what I thought was your legitimate question.  If you don't like it, don't use it.  If some seem excited to have a new feature that you consider unnecessary, just ignore them.

For me, it is like the great interest in the members being excited in seeing some of our videos getting greater resolution (higher than 720p).  I don't personally have a need for 1080p or 4K video (and its increased storage space) but I allow them their moment of joy at this new feature.  I usually ignore the outburst of excitement...♥️

John you were the only one who seemed to understand. Thank you for your response.

Requesting a little technical help. One elder is having great difficulty with his NW Publisher app. There appears to be a major blockage to data transfer from the NWS Server to his devices. Symptoms:

  1. The midweek meeting schedule changed one of the assignments - his schedule showed the old data
  2. We published an announcement about severe weather today. His wife's devices received it, his did not. No notification of the announcement, either.
  3. We tried refreshing the devices and the person from NWS - the data did not update.
  4. We reset his PIN, and 'sent' the change. Curiously, when he first opened the app, he was able to connect to the server with his OLD pin!
  5. We re-installed NW Publisher app on his devices from the Google play store - that took several minutes!
  6. His next attempt at connecting did ask for new PIN, but gave him an "updating..." spinner for many minutes. When it finally stopped spinning, all the places where schedules should appear say "Your local elders have not enabled this feature"

He has current devices (Samsung S24 phone, Samsung TabS9 tablet) and a good high-speed internet signal and good cell data on Verizon network.

Thank you very much for any help/advice/suggestions - I am trying to solve this without having to contact NWS support

Make sure that his app is up to date, and if it is and still not working, he can delete the app and reinstall it. I have had to have a few in the congregation on android reinstall.

Yes, those were the very first steps we tried - no joy. All apps are on latest version.

I had a somewhat similar issue some days ago. It was solved when I marked that person as Moved on NW Scheduler, synced, then unmarked that Moved box and synced again. It doesn't take long to try.

Is there a way to import absences into NW Scheduler using Excel? We have several brothers who work in shifts, and manually entering numerous absences would be very time-consuming. Is there a faster solution?

Can't the individual friends just submit their own away periods?

That is, of course, possible. However, since each of these brothers would potentially need to make 20-30 entries, the idea was to import the absences centrally using a CSV file

If a brother misses that many meetings a month, you might want to reconsider how much he is used in the congregation. :lol1:I assume he misses that many in a year.

We haven't run into that situation yet, I hope you find an answer.

Thank you very much for your response, but that was not the question. Additionally, I find it unsettling to draw conclusions about a brother's suitability based on one statement from me. There are regions in the world where many brothers are forced to work hard, often as factory workers in shifts. A bit more appreciation would be appropriate, dear brother.

Sorry, it was just a joke
