Adages, Aphorisms, proverbial sayings and other memorable words

Recommended Posts

The bible contains many such sayings of wisdom, and they become memorable and helpful. No doubt we all have heard some more that have been used in our own countries in modern times, too. I have put down some in this topic that I hope others will add to, but try to keep them to sayings that can have a value in our Chrisitan life. Such as:

·         Say what you mean and mean what you say

·         To present to others we must be presentable ourselves

·         Pray before you say

·         If I move away from U then united becomes untied (i.e. look after the brotherhood)

Never criticise anyone unless you are prepared to do it yourself and be critised by others.

He who slings mud is losing ground and digging a hole for himself.

There's always someone bigger, smaller, stronger, weaker, smarter and dumber than you, but don't push any of these around, you always end up in trouble.

I don't remember where I heard this, but I think it is an interesting observation:

The biggest problem with communication is the illusion that it took place.

Knowledge is seeing the bus coming straight at you - wisdom is stepping out of the way

A FRIEND is someone who:

Feels for others with understanding

Responds to calls for help

Indicates helpful bible verses

Extends hospitality where and when possible

Desires to reflect Godly qualities toward all

We are always working to become better friends to our brothers and sisters

The, again, a brother is:

Best when they try to understand you

Real support in the ministry

Over and above

Trustworthy with private words

Honest in giving counsel

Educated in the ways of the truth

Reliable always

This could stand for anyone, of course, but how could we identify a sister?

Tekmantwo shared this one;

When you ask someone how they are doing and they sigh and say "I'm here" tell them that HERE stands for Helping Everyone Remain Encouraged and you are glad they are HERE.

Tortuga, a great point to keep in mind.

Maybe a sister is:

Supportive of directions given by imperfect men

Instructable as in learning practical skills on build sites

Sociable and much better that many brothers in communicating

Trustworthy when asked to help out as many did during the Pandemic with extra zoom support needed

Effective as a minister of the good news (one of the large army of women)

Rated as an equal by the true God, Jehovah

Although maybe you could improve on the sentiments?
