How do you copy/download a YouTube Video Transcript?

More specifically, how do you copy/download a YouTube Transcript when the “3 dots” button that you hit to go to “Transcript” does not offer this?

 

Some videos only show “Report” when hitting the 3 dots button as there is no transcript available. I have seen apps or websites that require payment, but does anyone know of a free app/ website that will transcribe Youtube videos?

Hi, my dearly beloved brother Niel, I'm happy to assist you with this.

 

1. Open YouTube on your desktop or in desktop mode on your mobile browser.

2. Locate the video you want to watch.

3. Once you've found it, click the three dots below the video to reveal the 'Show Transcript' option.

4. The 'Show Transcript' will now appear on the right side of your screen.

5. To remove timestamps, click the three dots near 'Show Transcript' and select 'Toggle Timestamp.'

6. Now, copy the transcript. On a computer, right-click next to the text, scroll to the end, and click 'Copy.' On mobile, long-press at the start of the text, drag your finger to the end, and tap 'Copy' when it appears. When pasting, right-click where you want to insert on a computer or long-press on mobile and choose 'Paste.'

But please notice in my post that there are some videos that don’t have a “Show Transcript” option when you hit the 3 dots button.

So then how does a person get a transcription of these videos? Maybe someone has found a free app or website that can transcribe the videos that YouTube does not?

Alternatively just look out for a speech-to-text app for the device you are using...
