Favorite toy or toys you own and have fun !

Recommended Posts

I have a small shop with woodworking tools. I have a wood lathe and turn a variety of bowls and other round objects.

I have built the majority of my own PC's - including the one I am using now.

Wow! You go way back!

I had some Hotwheel cars that my brothers and I would race down the orange plastic track. We each put a car on the top of the track, one in front of the other and let them go, then see if the front car was faster than the back car. Then we would do it again but switch the cars around. We could see which one was fastest.

So this might sound odd but we lived close to Knotts Berry Farm in SoCal and I bought a 6ft whip when I was a kid. I loved it. When I got older, I bought a 12 ft whip. I used to be pretty good with it. One time many years ago we were on a Mexican Cruise and shopping at one of the ports I saw a 12ft bullwhip. I asked the guy if I could try it. I stepped into a clear area and started cracking it, even the locals were surprised to see a tourist cracking a whip...:D:crackwhip:

As far as toys when I was a kid ... I guess it depends on what you call toys.

I learned to drive a tractor before I was 8 and used to drive a Ford 9N Ford Tractor 9N, 2N, 8N Service & Parts Manuals CD^ | eBay

We also had horses, and I rode Westen although I did also learn to ride English since my sister was into that.

We live across the street from a spring fed lake, so I swam a lot and learned to water ski.

Didn't really have too many of the types of toys listed by @WD-40

I too loved to drive our Johnny Pop and ride horses as a kid.  I got out of the house and didn't come back till after the cows were milked in the evening.

I didn't have tractor, but I had an old skateboard with metal wheels. Every time it hit a pebble it would skid and stop.

We also had a go-kart and an electric mini-bike.

Didn't have much toys when I was a kid, but I used to some hairy stuff on my BMX, such as riding downhill on Mount Ousley Rd and Bulli Pass as a kid. (Use Google Streetview to see what I mean). It was nothing for me and my mates ride about 50-75km a day around the Illawarra.

The only other thing was my grandparents used to have some connecting block similar to Lego, used to make all sorts of things with it.

Intersection of Mount Ousley Road and F6 Freeway, near Wollongong, early 1960s. Really old pic. Br. Jason was even born yet.

Daydream -

Scientists have discovered that daydreaming is an important tool for creativity. It causes a rush of activity in a circuit, which connects different parts of the brain and allows the mind to make new associations.

That photo is at the bottom of the hill. The cops usually sat there with their speed cameras and book anyone going over the speed limit coming down the hill, it was 100km/h (65mph) in my younger days, but had been dropped to 80km/h (50mph), but trucks are limited to using low gear at a max of 40km/h (25mph) going down the hill. There are multiple safety ramps on the side going down with the last ramp being shown in that photo.

How fast were we going down that hill on our BMX's? We were keeping up with cars,  if not, we at times over taking them if they were too slow. We had to stop and get off that road before that intersection, or we were caught by the cops.

Here is a photo of the warning before going down the escarpment, 6km of pure adrenaline.

Here is a Youtube video of how this road came to be and why it is dangerous.

Bulli Pass is even steeper (and shorter), but it is not a main arterial road as Mount Ousley is, but it is has only single lane each way up and down the hill.

It has garnered some fame with skateboarders going down the road a few years ago, but we were doing this in the mid 80's. Mind you, we didn't have the amount of traffic that there is today, but it was still hair-raising rides to its day.

The photo below shows the major hairpin corner that Bulli Pass it has that is notorious for accidents. It is the same corner where one of my mates lost his brakes and slammed into the steel barrier and went head over turkey over the railing into the scrub on the otherside. He escaped with only bruises and cuts, but his BMX was totally trashed (sheared the front forks coupling from the rest of the bike frame). So he had to "double" (that is has two people on the same bike) with me as I had rear forks that he can put is feet on, but our other mates carried the remains of his BMX until we got to the bottom of the hill. Then we had to catch a train home, as it was too far to ride

How steep are the gadients? There is this sign at the top of the hill before you go down it. The posted speed limit is only 60km/h (38mph).
