Repository of Regular Experiences

Recommended Posts

Okay, so we have a topic so that we can share the Miraculous Experiences we... well, experience.

But a lot of good stories aren't miraculous. These days, the little things shine just as miraculously. So, I figured we should have a topic for that.

I'll start. This one happened to me years ago, but only paid off last week.

**********

There are three Congregations in my area. A few weeks ago, it was four. They merged the Congregations just recently.

A year or two back, I was running errands, on a winter's morning. Frigid air, frost on the ground... and two older sisters at a Cart, looking like icicles. I went to a nearby donut shop and got them a box of fresh made. The air was cold enough that steam was pouring off the box. I took them over to the Cart, and said that if they didn't like donuts, at least it would warm their hands up. They thanked me, and that was the end of it.

Last week, I'm in my new Congregation, and an older sister reaches out and grabs my wrist as I walk through the Hall: "You're the Donut man!"

I had forgotten all about it, until she explained. I was surprised she remembered my face. According to her, they did keep their hands warm, and then they ate them.

It goes to show: These things get noticed, and remembered.

I have had enjoyable moments, but not exctly like yours.

My wife and I had a return visit on which we called several times. When we were there the conversations went well, but we wondered if we were making any "real" progress. We had decided to quit going back. But, later that day we were on the man's street, and said "let's go one more time."  When we got to the house the conversation progressed about as normal, the the householder said "You know, when I ask other people questions, they tell me what they think. When I ask you a question you show me what the Bible says."  For the rest of the day we were figuratively "walking on air." I still enjoy remembering his comment.

I am a retired CPA. When I was working, an attorney and I were discussing a client we were both trying to help (i.e., keep the client out of trouble). I mentioned one thing the client suggested. The attorney's response was "You're one of those "Jehovah's." I know your won't do that."  That encouraged me because he was not talking about his experience with my personal integrity. He was talking about the reputation for law abiding integrity Jehovah's people have built, and he was imparting that same to me.  That was a wonderful comment from a worldly person about the reputation of Jehovah's people.

Another time my son (also a CPA) and I were interviewing a potential client. The client was a 15 story high rise condominium on the beach. Many of the owners were "absentee" (i.e., their condo unit was their "vacation home"). The association was running a rental program on behalf of the owners to rent the units out when the owners were not there. The association would pay maintenance and repairs on the unit for the owners, and take the maintenance costs as well as a commission out of the rental proceeds before they passed on to the owners what was left of the rent collected. The internal accounting for this is quite complex, and their former firm had not caught some errors. So, my son and I were meeting with the President and Treasurer of the association. The President of the association said to us: "I have had you guys checked out. I know what you are. I know you will do what you say you will do." The comment about "I know what you are" referred to knowing we were Jehovah's Witnesses. As with the attorney discussion, he was talking about the reputation for integrity Jehovah's people have built.

He had no prior experience with us, so he was NOT talking about what we had done for him. He was imparting the reputation of Jehovah's people to us.

Many of us have had similar things happen. Even if the occasion does not result in a bible study, etc., it still gives us a little "boost" when those "in the world" recognize the integrity and spiritual nature of Jehovah's people.

Thanks,

Jim
