Google+: Those who try it, like it (more than Facebook, apparently)

The Internet’s favorite red-headed stepchild of social media, Google+, is getting some good news today: Americans like it, more than the social network that forever transformed the meaning of the English word “like.”

It seems that those who try it, like it.

At least, that’s what the statistics say. According to the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI), Google+ scored a 78 percent customer satisfaction rating. Facebook, on the other hand, languished below the rest of the social media competition at just 61%.

In a statement, the ACSI said that Facebook set ”a new record-low score for the Social Media category,” and that the company placed among the “five lowest-scoring companies of more than 230 measured.”

It’s a little oranges and apples, of course. Facebook is on a seemingly inexorable march to be the first billion-user network, while Google+ has perhaps a quarter of that, with 150 million of them active. It’s arguably easier to satisfy a smaller number of people.

One major advantage that Google+ continues to have over Facebook in terms of user satisfaction? No need to monetize.

As recently reported, Facebook is now testing up to 10 ads per page … a significant increase from the three to six it’s had recently. Google+, comfortably ensconced in a Google buoyed by the AdSense money machine, still remains delightfully unmonetized:

Facebook vs Google+

Of course, one could argue that internal ads for services like creating an event (see bottom right of the Google+ side) count. Still, the ad count is far below Facebook’s.

One other advantage for Google+: Its audience is significantly more technical. So its users may be more used to constant change and updating online, whereas Facebook’s users famously complain whenever anything changes.

The ACSI agrees, saying, ”the most frequent complaints about Facebook are changes to its user interface, most recently the introduction of the Timeline feature.”

If, however, Google+ ever does become the network our mothers, fathers, and grandparents live on, expect the ratings to even out.

I post this because I loathe facebook, and long for the day when the people that matter to me start moving over to Google+

I went there, signed up and it was totally dead so I never signed back in after the first week.

Its "active user" total is bloated by how Google gets people to sign up. Most of these people, like me, sign in, think its neat, see its dead and don't really return.

Maybe one day it will take over but Facebook has a lot of rope left before they hang themselves. Internet domination right now.

I actually have quite a bit of decent activity over there, but it is a fraction of the activity I have over on Facebook. The Google+ activity is much higher quality too, not a bunch of stupid meme's being shared or spam to come play this game or that.

On the Android app, you can see posts from people "Nearby" based on your location (which Facebook cannot do) and interact with them. It's neat and I have met many people that way. The rest of the activity comes from Net Witnesses which is no surprise since we're like locusts (Revelation 9). I like it because they can circle me, but I don't have to circle them back (or I can put them on my Net Witnesses list and exclude them from stuff that they will get all judgmental on me about).

There exists the one speaking thoughtlessly as with the stabs of a sword, but the tongue of the wise ones is a healing. Because, pleasant sayings are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and a healing to the bones.(Proverbs 12:18,16:24)

Has anybody had problems with accessing G+ ? My system lodged a formal protest against it, as though it was treating the site like it was a virus or something. Perhaps it is using some kind of resource that I have never used before...???

Interesting. I have had no problems.

The whole thing is built on the new HTML5 and some other new technologies though, so maybe that was raising some alarms.

Google also programs in Python, whereas most other websites are in PHP (like us and Facebook) or Microsoft's ASP. I never looked into Python, but it is server side nonetheless.

There are many in our hall that are connected and use G+,  less junk ads and junk for sure.  It is easy to make circles for Family, Our Hall and ones in Eugene that i know.

I find it much easier to use than fb, and your right the fb quality is in the dumpster, indeed probably because it is larger, as a result i don't use it.

Personal Greetings from Paul and Kathy Forgive me if I got long winded, there is just so much to share.
