X days without social media (mini blog)

Recommended Posts

Been addicted to social media since i was around 14 (thats over half my life ago). The hold on me is strong and affects me in various ways (comments i make on this site before and after ive done an hour or five of social media are vastly different). Last year i actually did a whole month without social media and was able to see the difference. I wanna try to fully break my hold, making this "blog" as an accountability thing (and i dont think anyone i know irl cares that much so i have to talk to yall about this).

My rules:

-No social media. However, youtube is fine

- Any important life events are allowed to be posted on facebook but that is all (only way i have contact with some family members). Any browsing/scrolling will invalidate that day and the count restarts. (Monthly Hunter picture dump is allowed)

- Social media browsing required for work is okay, its work and it often leads me social media.

-At the end of the day, i must come back here, make a post and explain how i feel, feeling wise and anything ive done noteworthy.

This thread may seem like a throwaway pointless thing but im pretty sure im not the only one suffering from social media addiction.

And why not, if you wanna try this challenge yourself or even tweak some rules that fits you, feel free to comment and record your progress. I'll be back tonight with day one~

Edit: this site does not count as social media 🤣

Why not? What is your definition of social media?

Phillipians 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are of serious concern, whatever things are righteous, whatever things are chaste, whatever things are lovable, whatever things are well-spoken-of, whatever things are virtuous, and whatever things are praiseworthy, continue considering these things.

Day 1:

What did I do today? I listened to some more of the 2020 convention (Slowly going through that) and two of the newest talks. I started doing a small personal study what i'm calling my gem digging escapade. However I got stuck. Below is what i got.

Gem Digging #1

Mark of the Beast

5/10/2025

Question: What will happen to people whom get the mark or the beast during the tribulation.

What I grew up to believe: People whom get the mark of the beast (MOTB) will not be able to go heaven when they die

Reasons why I’m wondering this: Well since becoming one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, I learned that not everyone “good” goes to heaven by default (Rev 14:1-3). So, what happens to the ones who get the MOTB if they were never destined for heaven anyway? Or even so, what happens to the ones that were chosen to go to heaven but got the MOTB, what will happen to them?

Research: https://www.jw.org/en/bible-teachings/questions/what-does-666-mean/ . So according to the last few paragraphs, it seems the mark isn’t a literal mark, but seems to be similar to extreme loyalty to ones government authorities. Could it be possible that this ‘mark’ may be the ones that may turn over ones that love Jehovah over to authorities for a punishment?

~~~~
At this point I have hit a brick wall. I know there are some other possibly controversial resources I can use, and I did use, however the results weren't good and I didn't want to cause problems (I'm just mentioning I've already used it because I know someone may mention it iykyk)
I also finished season 4 of Elementary
Erin, I will show you how to research this:
Go to wol.jw.org (that's the Watchtower Online Library, but the steps are similar if you are using JW Library).
Go to the Bible > Revelation > chapter 13.
Click on the verse number of the scripture you wish to research. In this case it would be verses 16 and 17 (and maybe 18).
When you click on that verse number, several references will appear on the right with recent publications that explain those scriptures. In those references you will learn what the beast is and what its mark means.
Then in the next chapter, Revelation 14, verses 9-12, you will find what happens to those who receive the mark of the beast: SPOILER: They are destroyed forever together with Satan's system.
For this to work on JW Library you need to go first to Library > Indexes and download the most recent Study Guide. After that the references will be there for you to read.
if you are using a device with a smaller screen the references may not appear directly, you may need to click on the diamond icon.
I eventually did find that, but through other methods and couldnt figure out how to word it. It's just crazy how the mark is symbolic with, i guess maybe no clear meaning (besides the guess that i made based on what i looked up). Like without the mark you cant buy or sell items, so if my observation is the 'mark' (pretty much finding and turning in Christians for persecution). That would mean that in the future people are going to be trading Christians for food in some sort of way? Like what kind of mark is it that you cannot buy or sell if you dont have it?
Day 2: Nothing too eventful, finished a new diamond paint project and started another. Planning on getting two major ones done by the end of next month.  Oh yeah pretty much hacked most of Hunter's hair off. It's not even, some areas are way shorter than others, tried to do his hair shorter than usual, big mistake, should have left it a bit longer. Now looks like Joe Dirt after a wild night out of town.
