JW Conf Interactive + ROKU

Recommended Posts

JW Conf Interactive is like Zoom in that publishers can comment etc.

ROKU allows a stream from JW Conf to be played as non interactive video.

Thinking of the future:

How can we use both and completely move away from Zoom?

Anyone have a setup that isn't excessively technical?

Run JW Conf Interactive so publishers can comment, while still allowing the stream to ROKU so those few that don't use internet/browser enabled devices can still view the meeting.

Comments appreciated.

What is JW Conf?

I always thought if we ditched zoom for our own solution, we’d just use JWS Studio (which the branch developed itself)

I also know Apple TV supports Zoom and FaceTime (which is technically available on all platforms), although it requires setting your iPhone on the mantle to create the camera input…

JWConf is the new name for KHConf that the Branck has owned since just before the pandemic

However, since the Branch made a 5-year deal with Zoom that is only 2-3 years old, I don't think they plan to move away from it soon

Yes, we use JW Conf for phone tie in and have for years. The discount codes we got access to expire in 2028. Mine is Sept 1, 2028. But I am just thinking ahead and making some broad assumptions.

We currently use Zoom and JW Conf.  We have a few publishers who use JW Conf and watch via Roku,  and we have one who still use the phone to listen.

Our setup uses OBS with the virtual camera.  OBS streams to JW Conf and send the video feed to Zoom.  It also sends a feed to the aux room monitor.  That way we can change between the camera video and media video, or do other things like splitscreen the two (good for talks) with one simple click. (and no messing with share screen).

It was my understanding the JW Conf interactive is backward compatible and streams video and phone link as well.  I could be wrong as we don't use it.  Would like to switch over to it.  Zoom has too many features we just don't need or would use at the meetings.  JW Conf was built with our meetings in mind, and has a Zoom-like interface to make the switch easier.

If not, using OBS is a easy solution to use both.
