WFH - worship from home/ work from home

Recommended Posts

Capital letters which mean "work from home" - in the truth its "Worship From Home ". Just wondered if staying in is still a factor at your hall. Local congregation its about 40% at home 60% at hall. Cannot see it changing to be honest

Of course it depends on circumstances. If you really cannot attend in person, then Zoom is better than nothing. But definitely you need to attend meetings in person if you want to be able to encourage others and receive encouragement, work for the congregation and feel part of it. Zoom is like the IV fluids they put you on at hospital when you cannot eat. It feeds you and keeps you alive, but it can't compare with eating real food. in most cases, as soon as the meeting ends most Zoom participants disappear, so they receive the spiritual food but none of the association.

Often when many in a congregation are constantly on Zoom, that means the congregation has a problem. On the other hand, if most of those on Zoom are very sick or house-bound or have other compelling reasons that prevent them from attending in person, then they are probably doing all they can.

Of course, it was COVID that put us on the road to using Zoom instead of going to the hall. Our congregation has about 45 to 60 on Zoom at all meetings. Most of us there (yes, myself included) cannot get around as easily as we once could, simply because of age. We do all our service on Zoom too (maybe ten of us), writing letters or making phone calls.

Once in a while, a snow storm prevents some of us from being at the hall. Because our hall is on a little used street, the city doesn't remove the snow for a few days after a big snow storm. No place for parking! So the hall becomes off-limits to everyone, and all of us meet on Zoom.

@carlos used a very good illustration above. It's like IV fluids. Not very appetizing, but necessary.

We had three Sunday meetings in a row (in December) where the whole congregation was on Zoom due to snow and wind (record attendance over 100 each meeting.

We average about 60+ in person and 30 on line each meeting.  A few more attend in person on Sunday morning because  some older ones can only drive in daylight hours.  We are and 'older' (aging?) congregation.  About 50% are over 50 years of age and about 40% are over 65.  We have only one elder under 50.

So we keep an eye on those with heath & vision problems.  Many have chronic problems with bones, joints, arthritis and other plagues.  We have several with various stages of dementia (including some of the Pioneers).

We pray for strength until the New World comes.

We average roughly 30-40% on zoom.

Which works out to admit 100-120 in person and 50-70 on zoom.

Various reasons, care home residents, ones with mobility issues, immune compromised ones, strong anxiety in crowds as we're a big congregation now, rotating illnesses like colds, flus, COVID, and many more reasons.

There are maybe a handful that possibly could go in person more, but a lot of them weren't regular before zoom and now they're on every single meeting so that's pretty great honestly.

Interesting one rural congregation during covid did "zoom car witnessing"...they took google street view map and "drove" along country road and then wrote letters to each house on the  route
