Hollywood Resurrects The Bible?

Recommended Posts

Whenever "Hollywood" maks a Bibical flick, they never get it right.  I get sick to my stomach when I hear LORD, Lord my God, God, GOD, Almighty God, Great God, Jesus is GOD.   If they want facts, they should call New York and talk to professional, our brothers at Bethel, Patterson, WallKill, and soon the new area.   No, but they rely on fiction and evolution to produce these films, and make those that died faithful to Jehovah, as some kind of perverts, incest, and all of that.   I think there were just a handful of films produced by old Hollywood that actually used Jehovah's name in them.  But today,  turns my stomach!   They twist the scriptures to their own demise.

Couldn't agree with you more, however the fact that this series is out, there may be people who watch it, and who question because of it.  Some people aren't readers, and while the information contained within the movie isn't 100% accurately based off the bible....it still may draw some question.

Well, I hope it draws people when we go to their doors or on the street or where ever we find them, and if they view this Bibical fiction, perhaps they can ask a questions, like you say, and get the truth from God's Word.  I've heard stories from brothers on how some of them came into the truth, would like to hear how some may come into the truth via television drama on the Bible?  I can't recall any in our WT'S  on people's stories on how they got the truth, but there's always a first!

I was one of the people who watched the 'easter' special ALL the time, seen Ben Hur about 12 separate times, seen The 10 Commandments.  I had read the bible, and I was deeply interested in anything that pertained to the bible.

A sword with two edges. We want people to have and desire Bible knowledge. And, I sort of think is is more elevated then some entertainment out there. Most of the time. Then there is Mel Gibson.

But it is hard to portray what you don't understand, or have been supplied with false information. In reality, it may give honest hearted people something to discuss at the door.

They have been wallowing around in the muck and mire in the bottom of the barrel. Maybe they are trying to climb out. I don't know. I think they are not above muddying things up to get an audience. That stuff sells. Maybe not, but I do not see the world actually doing something that is honest and true and glorifies Jehovah. That leaves us out. I think.

I want to age without sharp corners, and have an obedient heart!

I never did watch Mel Gibson's version, but I do know that the one trailer (small video clip) I seen accurately represented the whip they used to whip Jesus with.  One with several ends, with rocks tied to them designed to tear the flesh.  In the 1950's?? version they played every easter I would bawl my eyes out, and frankly even reading the passages leading up to Jesus' death causes me to STILL do the same.  Knowing he's gone through that, and he's way past that, it still touches my heart so deeply that he would endure all these things, so that our Father would be able to be reconciled to us.  It just touches my heart in such a way, I don't have words to describe it.

I think you definitely hit the nail on the head with the comment, you can't portray what you don't understand, or don't have full disclosure on.  In thinking about this some more, there could be a real polarization of two groups of people, ones who look at the bible and think its absolute rubbish, and ones who admire/wonder about its validity, put faith in it, but don't know what to think/believe.

I know that Jehovah can use whatever it is that he wants to, and I have to say I wonder about the 'timing' of this series and given the degrading nature of pretty much all of today's entertainment... I wonder (because this is  obviously pure speculation) why all of these 'movies, series' are coming out.  We have been hearing for awhile now that Jehovah, no matter what Satan tries Jehovah can use it to his advantage.  He loves frustrating Satan *grins* , and we see so often Satan unwittingly fulfilling prophecy that was spoken.

I wallowed around in the bottom of the barrel, didn't know at one point I needed to get out either, and I can't really say that I know what the directors intent was.  I haven't even watched the series.  I did see though on a trailer, that they did hope to try to stay 'true to the spirit' of the bible.  I thought that was interesting.

I definitely agree that it's a moneymaker, and no there's likely no honesty/truth involved in it that glorifies JehovahI can see though, where Jehovah could use it to glorify him, despite Satan's obvious attempts.
