Has anyone seen this @jw_united_in_truth instagram account? As far as I know, they try to witness to opposers (including those who insist on using another name for God besides Jehovah) and apostates, or are basically trying to witness through IG (which isn't the best idea, in my opinion, I've seen the thread here about witnessing on Facebook). I commented on their page regarding this and this is the message they sent back:

To follow or not to follow? I would advise anyone to thoroughly look at their page as well as the screenshot I posted. I know this isn't a meme but I thought this world be the right place to put this since there are many JW meme pages on IG and I originally thought this was one.

I've never seen that particular account but I am fairly new to Instagram. I would definitely suggest to err on the side of caution if you don't like or feel uncomfortable with what you see.

I agree, sounds like trouble and ultimately a waste of time to witness to those who are neither humble or teachable. Better to continue searching for the sheep like ones.

And they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace.

Maybe you could respond with a citation or quotation of this very relevant KM?

*** km 11/99 p. 4 par. 18 Use of the Internet—Be Alert to the Dangers! ***

"Noticeably, there have been a number of individuals who have created Web sites ostensibly to preach the good news. Many of these sites are sponsored by indiscreet brothers. Other sites may be sponsored by apostates who wish to lure unsuspecting ones. (2 John 9-11) Commenting on whether there is a need for our brothers to create such Web sites, Our Kingdom Ministry, November 1997, page 3, stated: “There is no need for any individual to prepare Internet pages about Jehovah’s Witnesses, our activities, or our beliefs. Our official site [www.watchtower.org] presents accurate information for any who want it.”"

As we very recently discussed in the WT, apostates aren't always obvious, and they can use subtle means to ensnare others. While the account owner may be fooled into thinking that someone is a "misinformed" individual, they might really be a persuasive apostate fishing for comments. Once those comments come, it's easy to pull the conversation into a private email discussion (or Instagram equivalent) and start piling on the heavy apostate teachings, all while the account owner continues to leave that bait out in the open for all to see.

I follow that account on IG and they have very informative posts.  Recently they put a post up about the Ice Bucket Challenge - is it for Christians? so I thought it was more so directed at JW's not others.  When I have the time, I'll read the info they post, but I haven't seen any comments from apostates.  There was another IG account posting JW memes and some people were really offended, it was quite dark humour - but if that's not your thing, delete delete delete.  Some people would be really offended at this site, so it's up to the individual.

This is exactly what I was looking for, thank you!! I commented that I was pretty sure we aren't supposed to preach people through the internet, though I wasn't sure where the council was or if it really is a matter of preference or not. But I had a feeling it wasn't. Thanks again!

True, some of their posts are directed to us, while other talk about truths most of us well know... They also engaged in conversations with non-Witness through the comments, I can get more screen shots later if anyone's interested.

I've sent your comment to them... Hopefully they take this to heart and make the account strictly for fellow JWs and not for whoever wants to read the information on the page. JW.org is for that, minus the ability to comment.

Here's the latest reply I've gotten from him... I shared the KH info and Starvo's comment, as well as UpstateKate but he didn't acknowledge them... Also he's trying to say I'm accusing him of being an apostate when I never did... His posts are well researched and include sources but they're just targeted to the wrong people.

He has a point, if what he posts bothers you un-follow him. No reason to debate the issue with him.

Exactly, that would follow on todays wt study

To the OP:

I personally don't agree with preaching on social networks and it's not the same as writing a letter which is a one to one communication not a one to many! Also, consider you are preaching on your territory and you find a group of more than 10 people with a variety of different context between them... Would you start talking and debating with ALL of them, or even with one with the others as audience?

But I don't think we should be going around all the brothers that do that and try to persuade them to follow our view... We all receive the same food... My advice: just leave it ;)
