I have been going to the indoor community pool-open all year--but the wonderful thing is they keep it at 88-93 degrees all year!!! Most always it is 90 when I go but it is amazing when it is 89 degrees you can tell by just dipping your, foot in!

Sounds nice!  We have lots of outdoor pools here, but they are only open in the summers.  Also, I think people would rather I appear in a 1900's bathing costume.  LOL.

Update ...after seeing my Dr. she said I needed to go gluten free .. Since doing that I have lost weight more easily than before. I am using gluten free products in place of regular breads etc. I have also cut down on sugars and even my loved diet soda's. drinking water smoothies for replacement. so far so good. but there is lots more to do still.

Congrats to all of you on your accomplishments!

My first heart attack was at 46 and came out of the blue (I have a genetic problem with cholesterol and other lipids - I was unaware of this and my levels were astronomical).

Thank goodness you didn't smoke!  You'd likely be dead.

I can walk about 200 yards but get breathless and need to stop to rest in that, and cannot stand in one place because of breathing difficulties. I walk very slowly too. It makes the house-to-house work a problem, because I need to lean against the doorpost!  :exclamation:  I am starting to get breathless even in the house, sitting down.

Yet, you still do it.  (I seen your hours in another post!) good for you!!!  Keep putting one foot in front of the other, and surely it will get easier.

I have just been refused help by the government because in their opinion I am not "unable or virtually unable to walk"!  The authorities here are really getting tough on disabled people because they are spending too much money on them!

Sadly there's a lot of liars that don't want to work too, and you're being painted with the same brush :(  It's like that here in Canada too.  The people who shouldn't work ever......are forced to because lazy slack bums don't want to.

The only option for me is strict food control!  Control the intake to eat fewer calories than my metabolism requires, then my body makes use of the excess fat I was carrying around.

I know a 50 something year old man with a similar story as yours, I'll see if I can grab it off the site that I belong to (I'll ask him first).  Maybe there's something you could use.

When I reach my optimum weight, I can balance calorific intake with calorific needs and achieve stasis - lol    I'll be in the new system by then  (I hope) , so I am sure that Jehovah will cure my heart problems miraculously and I can throw away my walking-stick and run around like a child!

:backflip: :backflip: :loopy:

What is your goal weight?  LOL@stasis :P  I have a lovely visual of you running amok LOL!!!!   :bouncing:  :ecstatic:

Alright, has anyone had any success?  I have been going to the gym at least 4 times a week, watching what I eat... and I *still* don't feel like I've lost anything.  I certainly don't look like it!

Had you taken any measurements?

You generally exchange fat for muscle, lose water, etc., and don't see a lot of difference as far as the weight on the scale.  Measurements help you to see that something is happening, despite feeling like nothing has gone on.

I don't seem to be losing any more weight at the moment, but I do look slimmer.  Maybe the fat is turning to muscle?  :lol2:

I called in my doctors today and the receptionist didn't recognise me!  And I have been going regularly for years.

Re oxygen, I don't think that is considered in UK unless you have very severe breathing difficulties all the time, like with emphysema.

If it's the same receptionist, perhaps she's going senile (<img src=)'>

I kid!!!  Great work!  Other people generally notice our weight loss first, family members you could pretty much lose your entire body mass and then they'd go.....oh you look about 10lbs slimmer LOL.

Celiac's disease can show up in two ways.  One the person can be really thin, or they can be obese.  I had always assumed thin, but later found out they can be chubby too.

I personally should lay off the carbs/gluten laden stuff but I have zero self control of late.

Congrats to you for having the willpower to do it!

I HAVE!!!! And I am jumping up and down when I say that! I have been swimming -have stopped Zumba for now because of my lack of coordination and balance-but the swimming is definitely working for me. 5 days a week. A minimum of 1. 25 hrs to occ 2 hrs each day. I had a black satin short jacket that I have not been able to wear for years because it gaps, about 2 inches across the bust. Tried it on this morning and it is too big! It actually overlaps about 3 inches. My bras are fitting better too. I had a breast reduction back in 1995 and had approx. 50% reduction. Had been wearing speciality bars. Was in a K cup. Was reduced to a DD cup. I can't tell a change in cup size but have lost across my chest /shoulders/back. All from swimming. I will add weights to me legs in the upcoming weeks to help reduce and strengthen my legs/hips. I was unable to swim an entire lap when I first started and last night I swam almost a mile (a total of 35 laps---down and back is a lap. Someone can calculate that distance for me and let me know the length of the pool please...)

25 yards ~ 0.0142 miles, so

If the length of the pool is 25 yards, you would need to swim at least 70.4 or 71 laps (lengths of the pool) to swim one mile.

25 meters ~ 0.0155 miles, so

If the length of the pool is 25 meters, you would need to swim at least 64.5 or 65 laps (lengths of the pool) to swim one mile.

https://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&q=25yards%3D%3Fmiles&meta=

And WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

On the rest!!

You know, I should have done that.  I completely forgot.  I guess I could start now and see what happens?  :)

My Mom was wasting away and had no appetite, and all kinds of different problems the doctors couldn't figure out...and then we went off gluten.  It made a huge difference.  She started gaining weight again and feeling better.  She had a recurrent pleural effusion that disappeared, too.  Unfortunately, she now doesn't remember how much it helped her, so she does not stick to the diet very well.  Fortunately, she does not have immediate reactions to eating gluten, so staying on a mostly gluten-free plan still seems to help.

Apparently most people would benefit going gluten free because of GMO's ...

Thanks for all the encouragement. It's like the "interchange of encouragement" in a weight-related sense, here.

The measurement idea is great. I haven't taken measurements other than - my trousers used to be a 44 waist and now I wear 38 waist!

It's costing a fortune to keep buying smaller size clothes, lol.

Keep up all the good work, everyone.

Hmmm...That's interesting.  Hadn't heard that.

Speaking of GMOs, I hear that corn is one of the biggest offenders.  That's annoying, because a lot of corn is used in place of wheat in some gluten-free products!

Trader Joe's has a GF flour that is great for making chocolate chip cookies (just use your favourite recipe).  I tried using it for a cake, though, and it didn't turn out very well.  Mind you, it had a lot of fruit in it, and maybe it was affected by the moisture.  I am going to have to try just a plain white, yellow, or chocolate cake recipe.  :)

ok, so I'm new to JW talk and new to this thread.  I was glad to see it because I know I have to get serious about my weight loss and stop my yoyo past.  at 5,6" and 230 lbs, this girl needs to lose sixty lbs.  I have a terrible sweet tooth and don't exercise.  Now we all know JWs move.  we're out in service and lead busy lives, but I need to stop kidding myself and get an exercise program.  I've been told even COs are told to have regular exercise programs.

I see lots of ideas for diets here, anyone want to be my buddy?  I've been trying to "eat clean" by reducing things with preservatives and pesticides and I can tell some difference in my water retention in my ankles, but lets face it.  My ankles aren't what doesn't fit into my favorite service skirt. ;)  I've started eating "real" foods and I fear that has not helped my weight loss.  What I mean is:  butter instead of artificial spreads or margarine, sugar instead of sweet n low, meats that were not cleared of all fats,  coconut oil instead of Pam,  you get the picture.  Any thoughts on this?

Truth is I know what I need to do,  no sugars, no breads or pastas and exercise... I just need to motivate this granny with old knees to get movin'

wouldn't you think it would be an appropriate thing to pray for?  don't want it for beauty (ok, maybe a little),  need it to make my health and service to Jehovah better, more energetic, more enjoyable.

And my chubby hubby needs it as much as I do.

any thoughts sisters and brothers?

thanks surfergirl,  so, what's your current situation and plan of attack for weight loss.  After I posted the initial comment, I've done my floor exercises for the day.  Starting out slowly to be easy on the knees.

what's the story on the Palm sugar?  is it bad for you?

dear hubby is still sleeping (8:45 here) we went one day of the DC yesterday.  we have to split it up and go to different DCs for each day due to his health.  I wanted to get out in the ministry today, but I can't get into my closet :( Did anyone else cry during that Friday drama???  It really drives home some of the desperate situations some are bearing up under.

Yeah Friday sure was  a tear jerker,

At the moment physically i can't do much exercise.Next month I have a hernia operation the drs going to do a ceasaran style cut.

So I am planing to exercise from November on wards hopefully.

Palm sugar contrbutes to a lot of weight gain & I had the gestational diabetes with all 4 pregs. They just said to avoid it. it contributes to colestrol etc.

For now I guess I can just watch what I eat. & calorie control it. I am going to start juicing again tomorrow. I does help towards cutting down, & Is a great way to kick start your metabolism. & say flush etc. I WIll check in again tomorrow.

Welcome Terrie, I look forward to hearing your success story. :)

I avoid all sorts of sugars except fruit (love my 5 a day!) as I am diabetic (type 2), so I use sweetener in my coffee, etc.  No sugar on cereals either.  My muesli I eat with plain yogurt.  Skimmed milk to avoid too much fat and olive spread instead of butter on bread etc.  I don't believe it is good to avoid all carbs, just eat less.  Control the portions - it's hard at first because you feel hungry, but your stomach learns to accept smaller meals.  Fill up on fruit - apples are great, because you feel full sooner with fewer calories.

I eat bread, potatoes, rice and couscous (not all at once :D  of course)  but limit the amount of each with a meal.

I am fortunate in that I don't have a 'sweet tooth', I much prefer savoury foods (but I still have to avoid pies and pasties!) :(

Keep fighting, girl, and you'll get there.
