I did each step again,same outcome, started windows and went to my desktop.

Yeah Nancy, I need to research these Windows 7 boot options too. We are in a "holding pattern" at the moment. Take a little break.

Let's try the System file checker and see if that runs.

 

Use the System File Checker

1. Click Start, click the Start search box, type sfc /scannow, and then press Enter.
2. Complete the System File Checker process by answering each question.
3. After the System File Checker process is finished, restart the computer.

Also, if the SFC option above doesn't work, try to reset Internet Explorer back to it's original settings:

 

 First exit ALL programs on the laptop, then follow these steps:

1. If you use Windows 7 or Windows Vista, click Start
    

    

   
   . Type the following command in the Search box, and then press Enter:
   inetcpl.cpl
   The Internet Options dialog box appears.
2. Click the Advanced tab.
3. Under Reset Internet Explorer settings, click Reset. Then click Reset again.
   
   Click to select the Delete personal settings check box if you also want to remove browsing history, search providers, Accelerators, home pages, Tracking Protection, and ActiveX Filtering data.
4. When Internet Explorer finishes resetting the settings, click Close in the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box.
5. Start Internet Explorer again.

Nothing happens when I enter that in the start search box .

OK, then try the next step and reset IE

 

When you type in: inetcpl.cpl

 

A file should be listed at the top of the start menu called "inetcpl.cpl"

 

Click on that and then follow the rest of the steps.

OK...the third time it worked and now it says I need to restart computer for changes to take effect

When it came back on it made 2 crashing sounds.

What does IE do now?

Just made another crashing sound.

It makes that crashing noise when I click IE

By "crashing sounds" you mean the default error sounds that Windows makes that come out of your speakers, right?

OK, here's something else to try.

 

Open the start menu, go to the program list. Go to "accessories" click on it and then find the "system tools" folder. Open that and click on:

 

"Internet Explorer (No Add-ons)"

 

And see if it will open.

It sounds like cymbals hitting together,that sound,maybe that's the default sound.

No nothing happens.The accessories box disappears. That's all.
