No Junk Mail

We had a letter read at our Service meeting last night about homes with a sign on "No Junk Mail" and what we should do.

The message was clear, that although we do not see our tracts or campaign Kingdom News as "junk mail", the fact is that many householders do, and have written or phoned the Branch in an irate fashion to complain.  So no more may we put anything through the letter box or otherwise leave anything at those houses where there is no-one at home, if they have the "No Junk Mail" sign displayed.

 

Is this just UK? What is the situation where you serve?

Interesting. First of all, it is against the law to use any postal recepticales. Period. And I have never seen a, " no junk mail" at any home. But then, this is a rural area. We shall see.

same as Bea says, against the law to use mail boxes/ slots and never have seen a sign  as you describe however if the home looks abandoned or pizza coupons/ carpet cleaning ads/ etc are piling up we do not leave anything

   we have many 'snowbirds' or winter vacationers in this area, we try to be extra mindful that the home may be only a seasonal residence

Technically our mail boxes are property of the U.S postal service. Anything out them needs some type of paid postage. Old fashioned doors that have "mail" slots are not considered the same.

In Canada, the Post Office is now a crown corporation-allowed to make a profit. We can put literature including tracts, invitations, etc in mail boxes/slots at homes since they belong to the homeowner/tenant. However during the memorial invitation work last March, we were asked to respect the no junk mail/no flyers notice.

You can put a letter along with any tract in the "Junk Mail" box.   The letter should say.."

"We appreciate your attitude towards 'junk'    Isn't time  for God to act now  to wipe out all those "junks" who are ruining this earth and opress the fellowmen?  Yes the time is fast approaching. That is why God is looking for those who hate "junks" and love those who are looking for a peaceful mankind.  Do you want to be part of it?   then please let us know... Thanks"

Same Down Under. We can't put in the mail boxes if there is a sign No Junk Mail.

Personally I think those who are paid to deliver the pamphlets Have abused that, Around the units there are these rows of Mail boxes instead of putting one pamphlet the ones paid to deliver fill them chockers or You see them scattered all over.

Gabe, you are right about those paid to deliver flyers.  They ignore the "No Junk Mail" sign that I have on my door!  The letter from the Branch indicated that they have had a lot of grief from irate householders - it must be bad if they have to send a letter to all congregations about it.

 

I had forgotten about the situation with mailboxes in the States.

 

Rajan, that's an interesting suggestion. Not sure of its legality here, where even letters may only be written to people we know!

 

I think Satan is trying very hard to stop the message getting through to people.  The letter from the Branch made an important point that the preaching is being supervised by the angel flying in midheaven, and he will make sure that those with the right heart will be contacted in some way.  It stressed the great results from 'trolley witnessing' and other forms of informal witnessing.  So we leave it in Jehovah's hands with confidence.

Yes indeed, kford.  I am referring to situations where people at not home, as I mentioned in the OP.  Thanks for the reminder.
