Smithsonian unearths a new species of mammal

The small, bushy-tailed, rust-colored furry mammal they named the olinguito was a rare find — the first new carnivore species found in the Western Hemisphere in 35 years.

My thought is that if they would just put that much effort and money into helping the people in that country, how much better off they would be. But I also understand the want to find new things.
