What do you  do in  your congregation picnics and how often do you do it?

Everyone brings a covered dish,cake with years text,volley ball,board games,cards,water balloons!

We usually have one entire cong. picnic, but some of us sisters with kids plan a few in addition, for our kids, many others invited too!  we just had one this past sat. we cooked out, brought desserts, one sister set up a craft table to make book-mark ribbons for bibles... and other book-marks kids could make, a few of the sisters did a skit with children, they were defending themselves at school in accord with not going to a Halloween party.... very nice!  we play some games with kiddos, there are swings, Frisbee, corn hole, as well as just hanging out and chit-chatting!  we go for a hike or walk in woods, sometimes play volley ball or dodge ball, etc... things like this.  we have goody bags for kids, this year, school supplies and some candy and gum...

What is a congregation picnic?  We don't have such things! Very occasionally we might have an evening get-together in a hired hall, but only if someone pays to hire it.  Then all will contribute food.

Eat food -- as often as my elbow bends.

What is a congregation picnic?  We don't have such things! Very occasionally we might have an evening get-together in a hired hall, but only if someone pays to hire it.  Then all will contribute food.

   one day during the year, ALL in the congregation try to join in fellowship together

     activities may include various sports/ games/ fun at park or other public place

       always an abundance of laughter and friends chatting not to mention the food   

 

... ours in is March/ April <-- best time of year in Florida to be outdoors

     at a nearby park or beach- cookouts, softball, frisbee, games for the tots, etc...

Sometimes someone decides to host a gathering and then everyone brings one or more dishes. Some of us enjoy the pool/water sports, while a group of others goes walking in the woods/plays musical instruments/sits and catches up on how everyone's been doing.

 

Other times we someone has a cookout and we all sit in their backyard talking with one another, then some play volleyball or tag. We've had two such gatherings in the last few months.

We used to have on at our house in New Hampshire every year for about 15 years. We lived on a river and everyone loved to come. We would dig about 10 buckets of clams and Grumpy would make steamed clams and clam chowder. I would make baked beans. We would cook about 12 dozen ears of corn, and everyone else would bring casseroles or desserts. The kids would play badminton or volleyball and the men would play horseshoes. We would have a big bonfire and sit around the fire and toast marshmallows after dark. It was great fun. I usually gained about 10lbs that weekend.

Vernalee all I can say is awesome!!! The most memorable one for me was my first one. Not because it was my first but because I had just been studying 2 months. It was Christmas and my husband refused to go with me. Told me if I wanted to ruin his Christmas he would not go with me to the beach on Christmas Day with people he did not know nor wanted to know. So I went by myself. Can not remember the name for sure--Doc Weiler rings a bell. But there was beach volley ball-0, they dug a pit for a lobster and shrimp boil, and lots of fun and games. A camp fire and s'mores later. I remember fondly it being the best Christmas I never had !

We play alot of soccer (brothers) and other games. Eat food that brothers and sisters bring. others love

We have a sister in our hall who has an annual outdoor movie night. It is always the Sunday night of Labor Day weekend when most of the friends don't have to work.  Another couple has an annual get together at their house on a Saturday in September. We have an annual event here in our town called "Balloon Days" when a bunch of hot air balloonists come to town for races, ect...  They always do their get together that weekend.  The last few years I have tried to have an annual "full congregation" get together at my house as well.  I invite a few friends from neighboring congregations as well.  The last 3 years I have planned a big scavenger hunt, but this year didn't get it done so I am having it in a public park the weekend of Sept 28th.  Our full congregation as well as several friends from 6 other congregations. Planning a football game, volleyball game and a handful of yard games for whomever wants to play.  Many will just sit around and visit.  3 local sisters are helping with crockpots of meat.  We are having BBQ & sloppy joes for sandwiches.  Also having a crockpot of taco meat and taco chicken meat for "walking tacos".  I'm providing drinks and tableware and asked everyone to bring a side dish.  Hoping for GOOD WEATHER that weekend.

We had two this summer.  It was well advertised, our congregation has 96 publishers, of those only 15 showed up (the first time).  The second time, about 20 showed up.  People in the congregation complained because the picnic place was to far away and out of their comfort zone.  To bad for them, others had a good time, sitting in a pavilion eating, drinking (soda/water), sharing experiences, and having a good ole time.  Oh yeah, it even had a giant playground for all the kids that came with the 20 some friends!  The kids had a great time too.

The complaint that it is too far makes my blood boil. We have always lived the furthest away from things and we still make sure we go so that we can be encouraged and be an encouragement to others. Grrrrr

wonder if those who feel the gatherings for encouraging fellowship

It's was sad,with the turn out, but we managed.  Those who showed up brought food (no grills allowed) and we all had a great time.  And this was before the gas prices started to drop.  Gas in August was around $3.65 a gallon, now its down to $3.25 (regular) here.  My drive was 20 minutes to the park, for those who came (the 20) was a 30 minute trip.   Sunday, I went to visit a congregation that was 1 1/2 hours away.  I was so happy to get there, and see some friends who I can't always be with.   It was such a great day, fluffy white clouds, blue sky, warm/cool nice fall day.  The talk was fantastic "Is it later then you think?"  Great talk!     But the picnic was super, and am glad me and the other 19 all showed up, and their kids too.
