I've been juicing more than smoothies recently. It's so cold in the mornings I can't face drinking a freezing cold smoothie (a lot of my fruit is frozen).

i had a stinky virus last week, and the juice would make me feel instantly better.

i was making a shot glass full of just a juiced lemon and a huge chunk of ginger. It worked miracles!

I'm finding that if I eat something fresh, that it does make me feel like I am on the right track.  one of my favorites is broccoli, celery, yogurt, and orange juice. I do keep a bag of frozen fruit in the freezer to break up the monotony.

Hmm, I may have to try that one Peggy.  I finally went ahead and made a fresh Mango, Strawberry and Banana smoothie this evening (didn't feel like cooking.)

Hi Brother Dilip, this is a smoothie recipe I put together on my own;

- 1 mango (kent) (cubed)

- 6 fresh strawberries (halved & leaves removed)

- one half banana

- 170 grams (6 oz.) non-sweetened Greek yogurt (chilled)

- 22 ml of organic honey (depending on the level of desired sweetness)

- 250 to 280 g of crushed ice (9 to 10 oz.)

Place fruit in a bowl and freeze for 30 minutes to one hour.

Remove from freezer and add mango, strawberries and half banana into blender.

Add the yogurt, then the honey.

Pour crushed ice on top of ingredients.

Blend/Pulse for up to one minute until desired thickness.

Pour smoothie into glass; garnish with another strawberry on top and enjoy!

(1.5 to 2 servings.)

NB:  If necessary, stop the blender every 15 or 20 seconds and rearrange so the ice does not get stuck between the blades.

Thank you sis.

I don't understand what is Kent....

And you are asking to place the fruit in a bowl. Which fruit to be kept in bowl and to be frozen?

And if we don't add yogurt, is it OK.? And if yogurt is must but we don't get Greek, what is the other option.?

Thanks for your reply Brother.  Actually, Kent mangoes are popular here in the U.S., (see the picture below), but any fresh mango will do.  I froze only the cubed mango and strawberries. (I did not freeze the banana.) Also, chilled yogurt gives the smoothie its smooth texture.  Some people use plain yogurt, others use vanilla ice cream for a smooth consistency. I used Greek yogurt because it is popular in the food markets here, but I believe any yogurt will suffice.)  There are no hard or fast rules when it comes to making a smoothie, so please experiment with or without the yogurt.  Either way it is healthy for the body.  Let me know how it turns out for you both. :)

Supposedly ginger is a superfood used for centuries, diabetes, heart disease, upset stomach and anti-inflammatory.  Celery provides antioxident nutrients, alkalizes the blood, helps in reducing bad cholesterol and lowering blood pressure, and relieves joint stress, also an anti-inflammatory, apples, pectin fiber and the secret for making a great tasting smoothie, And spinach well... makes you feel like Popeye !    :D

Dr. Oz recently jumped on the bandwagon stressing the importance of  the benefits of a large glass of fresh green juice daily.

Fresh squeezed lemon adds a nice kick of nutrients, and flavor too.
