What Firefighters Do For Fun

[Friends just call me Ross]

Every year, during our County's Fair, teams of firefighters gather together to compete for a traveling trophy.

This is the new trophy.  The last time our department won it it was a statue.  

But that was about 30 years back.

 

The Firefighters' Challenge trophy is won by the department that can spray a metal barrel over the opposing team's

goal line--a white painted stretch of steel cable.   There are many qualifying rounds to get to the championship match.

Each round lasts 2 minutes.

 

It's a blast!  Literally!

 

 

Our department won the trophy this year.

Mike V.     Randee J.  Chief Brian H.        Mike J.         Steve C.            and me.

To celebrate our victory, one of the other departments turned their deck gun

on and doused us...good.  

 

A lot of good, clean fun was had by all!

I really had a ball!

The first time I went to fire school was around 1990 and I went to the Dodd-Beals Fire School in Reno Nevada, they use to do the barrel contest but had discontinued it before I attended, so I didn't get to play..

 

After Dodd-Beals closed we started using the Fire Science Academy in Carlin Nevada, they didn't have a barrel wire set up so we didn't get to play there either.

 

I heard that the secret is to get someone to park a truck on the other teams supply line 

 

It does look like a barrel of fun!!!

We have a brother in our congregation, now, who is a firefighter. I want him to meet the husband of a Bible student. Her husband is Fire Chief or Asst Fire Chief of a nearby community. So much variety among our friends.

Some years back we had several Brother who were fire fighters for the City and/or County. One of those Brothers was the City Fire Marshall
