According to the initial reports from local elders in New Zealand and the branch office of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Australia, none of their members have been injured or killed in the quake. The Witnesses have organized a disaster relief committee based in Christchurch, approximately 91 kilometers (57 mi.) southwest of the quake’s epicenter.

Mandi, was it upgraded? .I was thinking it was a 7.4...

Some sites are calling it a 7.8 - but NZ is calling it a 7.4  or  7.5.  I even heard of one calling it an 8.1

I have just learnt that it HAS indeed been upgraded to a 7.8.

That is a biggee..

The Japanese quake in 2011 was 9.0 or so.

The Landers quake in Southern California was a 7.0 or 7.1, I was about 30 miles away for that one..
