"You do not need to be a Stanford student or faculty or staff member to access the vast treasures of the Rumsey Map collection, nor do you need to visit the university or its new Center. Since 1996, the Rumsey collection’s online database has been open to all, currently offering anyone with an internet connection access to 67,000 maps from all over the globe, spanning five centuries of cartography."  http://www.openculture.com/2016/04/download-67000-historic-maps-in-high-resolution-from-the-wonderful-david-rumsey-map-collection.html

Thank you! Old maps are fascinating.

I found an old atlas in my grandparents' house after they died. It doesn't contain a publishing date so I tried to determine the date based on the borders of countries. Half of Europe was part of the Austro-Hungarian empire. Most of the interior of Africa was still uncharted. I dont' remember all the details now, but I came with somewhere around 1870. The kind of research project I love for a nice evening at home. :)

I love old maps!  My parents were 'map people' and since we had to travel a great distance for conventions and assemblies, we always had a map.  A few months ago, during my Bible reading, I got so frustrated because I could not find the area or city I was looking for.   I looked in every JW  publication I have owned for 60 years.  A brother told me when I asked him where the other part of the map was in our "See The Good Land", pg 18, 19,  that 'the brothers did not see the need to finish the map.  They made all the map you need."  So that satisfied me ..........at the time.  Anyway, if I needed to know where that location was I would find it at some time or another.  Anyway, thanks for much for this.  Did you imagine so many of us would love this link?

Do you remember what location was that? By far the most detailed maps of ancient Israel published by the Slave (or anywhere I've seen) are in the Insight book, volume 2, pages 956-960. Only in the printed edition, of course. They are some color pages. If it's known or suspected where that location was, it should be there.

Thanks, Carlos, that is about the same thing the brother told me.  I will always enjoy maps.  Wonder if I'll need one in Paradise?  Probably and hopefully not!
