Bottom line: Reports indicate at least 25 dead and hundreds injured from Sunday’s powerful eruption of Volcan de Fuego, one of Central America’s most active volcanoes.

A mix of red-hot rock and gas, known as a pyroclastic flow, rushed down the mountainside and engulfed villages. Unlike slow-moving lava, which people may be able to escape from on foot, pyroclastic flows can reach extremely high speeds.

Wikipedia: A pyroclastic flow (also known as a pyroclastic density current or a pyroclastic cloud)[1] is a fast-moving current of hot gas and volcanic matter (collectively known as tephra) that moves away from a volcano reaching speeds of up to 700 km/h (430 mph).[2] The gases can reach temperatures of about 1,000 °C (1,830 °F).

BREAKING NEWS | Volcano Erupts in Guatemala
On Sunday, June 3, 2018, Guatemala’s Volcan de Fuego, or "volcano of fire," erupted, spewing a river of molten lava and sending plumes of smoke nearly six miles (9 km) high. There are at least ten congregations in the affected region. Thankfully, none of our brothers and sisters have been harmed, although eight have been evacuated as a preventative safety measure. In the spirit of 2 Corinthians 8:14, 15, neighboring circuits have offered supplies, shelter, and transportation.
