I only managed to catch the movie 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat on Saturday 4th April. Fancy this is my first time watching it and I loved it. Missed the 2nd one though. Oh well, hopefully we'll get to see Cats, School of Rock, Evita, By Jeeves etc.

Wow, this is getting a bit too much and pretty time consuming stuff. Feeling a bit exhausted just reading about it. I've got to get started on my letter writing. Satan's world never seems to let up especially when one is self isolating. The problem is that I've no one on my radar. Ok, so I'm in contact with my niece (Methodist) everyday via Whatsapp, there is my disassociated son who is so busy with his work. Then the only one who does chat with me is a bible student (not mine) whom I'm quite friendly with. But  she's not the type to discuss deep stuff about anything.  She's Indonesian and not really into reading. But I'm going to ask a bit of help from her for my letter writing. Writing to Ivy's aged bible student who is with her on an island in Indonesia.

But as for the sisters in my congregation, they seem to be busy with whatever they're doing. I know only very few of them are able to use WBLib to do research. So when I set up a whatsapp group recently during the lockdown, most demurred or were too busy with their cliques. Sigh. 

So I will have to amuse myself (immensely) with these free musicals. A great way to kill time.

Free coding classes of languages I haven't learned or am rusty at? Yes please.

Here’s how to enroll in Coursera courses for free:

1. Click on the class you’d like to take and make sure that there’s a blue promo banner at the top of the page. If not, refresh the page and let it load fully.
2. Click the ‘Enroll for free’ button.
3. Select “Purchase Course.” If the promo has applied, it should say below it that “Your promotion will automatically be applied at checkout.”
4. At checkout, the course should be free and state $0.

 

But, the courses below are entirely free until May 31, 2020, or until enrollment becomes too saturated. Coursera is giving learners access to all the stuff typically behind a paywall: a certificate, graded homework, projects, and unlimited access to a course’s reading material. Of the list below, only 15 were free

We have a Chinese group part of our congregation ( used to till lockdown that is, not sure how it is working out now  ) and a full Spanish congregation - one family lives in our apt bdg ( the WT bdg ).

Our congregation has Caucasian  Cdns - English, British  ( and she says Jehover ) 1 American ( my wife ), Portuguese, Spanish, Filipino, South African, Croatian, and a bunch of others.

 

Don't need to go online for languages - just call up one of the friends.

I have a Chinese congregation for decades now and none of the sisters ever showed any interest to teaching me. I would rather take up a course that is accredited from the Beijing university, even for a month to see how professionals teach the language and they also give graded homework, projects, and unlimited access to a course’s reading material. Not like the normal free classes but for these 2 months, the course is exactly like normal fully paid up classes.

Like the language classes conducted at the Kingdom Hall, it would be imperative to join that particular language meetings at the Hall, at least for a while

But I'm sure over in the west, the friends may have different mind sets about teaching a language to those of a different race. Not here though in the far east. Friends here are not so altruistic. Maybe it is for economic reasons for they may have to struggle to make a living.

Thank you Brother Tony, I have just signed up. I thought I was late because it started on 15 April, but it was ok. Now on my first lesson. Must hook up with Sister Ivy who is fluent in Mandarin. But she is very busy. 

I couldn't believe it was so easy to sign up. This is not my first course with Coursera. The last one went nowhere. Not the type who has discipline to stick to any course. There is a free course downtown. I think I will have to go for a sit down class otherwise it is going to be another futile exercise.

This course is good because the provider didn't ask for credit card number. The last time I forgot to cancel my classes after the 3rd month and ended up begging for a refund of the fees.

It is good to have family that speak the learned language. My daughter married into Chinese speaking family (Cantonese). This is not my first attempt, so hopefully I'll get a bit further with this class, as it is structured.
