I appreciate your comment, but we are not 'fighting' about words. We are simply having a civil discussion about terminology and how even the Bible changes it's wording at times. To make those changes, even the writers had to have had these conversations.

But as someone living in the US my entire life, I've never ever, ever, heard this term used outside of historical slavery context.

I grew up in a racist family. My grandfather gave speeches at national KKK conventions when such were allowed. I have NEVER heard "overseer" used in connection with slavery. I had to ask my parents about it they confirmed that is was but it hasn't been commonly used like that in 50 years.

One dictionary shows this slave related definition as the #1 primary one (historical sense).  A check of synonyms shows the words "Slave-driver"

Just wanted to point out, since I didn't realize before, the massive levels of hypocrisy exhibited by Microsoft, who, I believe might have been mentioned, owns github.. Institutional slavery was not pernanently eradicated in the 1860's, but is alive and well in China. Many of the products we use, products made by no less than 83 companies are made by people China sent to reeducation camps and sent into forced labor. That includes some of the computers and devices for which MS writes software. I find it difficult to believe that no one at the high end of these companies knew anything of what was going on, being that they're companies that have operations all over the world. It's not just microsoft. Companies like apple who are happy to exploit the forced labor of an entire demographic within china are equally happy to preach about how we shouldn't use language that reminds us of these sensitive topic in countries where the horrors of legal slavery have been eradicated for years. I'm sorry, but at some point, I don't think these companies have any right to preach to us, when they're part of system that is still oppressing people for no other reason than their demographic.
