Google Nest Audio - jw.org support

Recommended Posts

I am interested to buy Google Nest as pictured below. (link)

Does anyone have one?

Does it support jw.org? playing original songs, Watchtower reading, Bible reading etc ?

My sister just gave me one of these. Too bad you’re so far away from me, otherwise I’d give it to you haha. She signed up to Spotify and was given it for free but never used it because she has two Amazon Echos and prefers those.

and I’m not sure I’ll use this, since I have neither Spotify nor any google stuff, but I could try setting it up and seeing how the Google Assistant works with jw.org

here’s the instructions: https://www.jw.org/en/online-help/using-jw-org/use-voice-assistant-to-play-content/action-for-google-assistant/

That would be incredibly helpful.

It seems that Google Assistant works with jw.org, but I am not sure how this model "performs" in this matter.

I will leave the link to detailed description from jw.org of what Google devices can be used and what they can do:

It's great to be able to play Bible readings and publications and our songs by means of the Nest. Yet I rarely use it due to two issues:

- Every time I tell it to talk to JW.org it repeats all that speech with all the things it can do. It's fine the first time, but it's annoying to have to listen to it every time.

- After I tell it to talk to JW.org it often doesn't understand any commands I give because it's not Google Assistant but JW.org replying. I don't know how to exit that JW mode and be able to use the device as usual, other than switching it off and on again.

Am I the only one having these issues? If you have a solution for any of these issues I would be happy to know.

Carlos, you should be able to ask the device to "stop" anything it is doing (in this case, connecting to jw.org) by invoking the assistant (ok Google) and ask jw.org to stop

I simply say ..play original songs ..and it plays it ...

I don't command "talk to jw.org" each time.

But then how would it know you are referring to jw.org, and not some other site?

I bought speaker yesterday, when playing in the morning I said ...talk to jw.org ...but later on 2, 3 hours later ...I say play original songs, and it does. Perhaps google Down Under is smarter? LOL .....on a serious note, it seems that some kind of memory kicks in.

Just for clarification...I bought speaker exclusively for jw.org, as I often work on the computer etc ....and wanted something to play in the background..kingdom melodies, morning worship etc ......works for me.
Did not try any other features yet.

Thanks, Mike. Do you know the exact wording I can use to tell JW.org to stop?

It’s not necessary to say anything; you should be able to simply unplug the device, and voilà, the music stops! And as a bonus, it will also immediately stop its continual recording of all sounds inside your home and sending those recordings to California to be analyzed. It’s a win-win!

Do you mean that if I give witness to the Google Nest there will be a real person of flesh and bone in California listening to it? That opens a whole new field for witnessing!

You can say "ok Google, stop". Just tested and it worked. Actually, this command will stop any activity, even if it's telling you the long story of weather in the area.

Thanks, Mike. I will try it.

I haven't used my google with JW.org. Perhaps I should as it starts doing its own thing in the middle of the night. It started broadcasting a news story about space travel. I got up and told it to stop. Got back into bed and it started again. I have Alexa as well, my husband told me he's heard it play music randomly. Sometimes  they speak without being called upon. I guess they get bored as they are mostly sitting around doing nothing.

No.  They just archive it, and everything else you say. But it’s all very well organized and linked to your web search history, YouTube watch history, and GPS coordinates since the invention of google maps.
