These are some really good ideas, in this thread. like @1MKnight I'm not entirely sure I want the whole bible in it. Adding things by hand helps to think about the items I copy. But we'll see if I get tired of that. I'm also looking in some language tools that I use, Vine's dictionary, trent's synonyms, I use them regularly and having it all work together might be useful. I use bibles in several languages (and translations) all the time, and adding them all sounds like a lot of work...

In previous experiments, with other tools, I ended up playing with the tools instead of studying. So I try to find a balance between the two. I'm using my Obsidian during the meeting and so far it helped me answering 🙂 and making notes during the last two public talks.

What plugins do you use @student?

Two things I would like to add is maps, I like having an idea *where* things take place, timelines, *when* things happen in relation to other things, and overviews of books, like in the study edition before each book.

I use Obsidian as well, primarily as a repository for transcribed talks, illustrations, images, and theocratic research broad in nature that doesn’t apply to a specific scripture.  When a point gleaned from a talk applies to a specific scripture, I copy that specific point to my Gems in Personal Study in JW Library and then put a ✔️ by it in Obsidian indicating that it has been done. In Obsidian, I use the backlink feature when appropriate.  For example, it works well to have one note with the name of a speaker and picture, and then link individual notes containing transcribed talks given by that particular speaker.

I haven’t put NWT in Obsidian as I think it would make the vault too big and don’t feel it’s necessary because of how I use JW Library.

I am heavily invested with many notes in JW Library but there is no way that I can see to export all of that data. So I am using Obsidian as a companion app for JW Library. One must be careful to back up everything regularly. I use a Mac and iPad using ICloud to sync and I backup Obsidian to Dropbox and a portable drive.

There is a fairly step learning curve with Obsidian and I’ve only scratched the surface.

What I do instead is consistently use the same citation format for scriptures. (the full scripture citation: "Matthew 6:3" rather than "Mt 6:3") This way I can simply search: "Matthew 6" and all my citations of Matthew 6 verses will show up in my search results. If I need to be more specific, I can add the verse.

I'm just starting with Obsidian and I can't create notes with colon : but I can see that you can. How did you do that?

🙏 Thank you! 🙏

Simplenote is a straightforward note-taking app that allows users to create notes, to-do lists, and organize their thoughts with tags. It syncs across all devices for free, making it easy to access your notes anytime, anywhere.

I cannot believe how well thought out this app is! I love this app! I have TONS of post-it notes, many that are temporary, and many that I want to keep. But don’t have time to organize them into a filing system. With this app, I just save the information, and I’m done. I can find almost anything using the full-text search, and get instant results. Kudos to the developers! Thanks for such a good app!

Here are some hidden tricks that I use:

To create a checkbox: Enter -[] with a space between the characters. As soon as you type additional text on that line, your three characters will be converted to a checkbox.

To indent checklist items: Add additional spaces to the left of the checkbox. When you complete that item, and press the return key, the new checkbox will align with the one just above to outdent, just delete some of the spaces to the left of the checkbox.

To create a bulleted list: Once you create an item starting with a bullet, and hit return, a bullet will automatically be created for the next item.

I ran into the same problem as you. Because of that I usually avoid putting scripture citations in the name of files and links. So I don't do something like [[the meaning of Matthew 6:33]]. Instead I'll call the note something like [[Jesus commanded us not to worry]], and then inside that note I'll say something like "In Matthew 6:44 Jesus said..." and I'll have the full idea there. Then, later if I'm searching for notes with that scripture, I go to the search bar "Matthew 6" (with quotes) and any instances of 'Matthew 6' including any verse citations will appear in the search. I just did it in my vault and I got 47 results.

Beyond that I also have a Bible in markdown format inside my Obsidian. It's the World English Bible, so it's open source. Every chapter is it's own file, and every verse is a subheading. So, I can do a wikilink to the file and subheading (the chapter and verse) like this [[Matthew 6#33]]. The "#" is what points you to the subheading. So I've gotten in the habit of taking scripture citations using "#" instead of the ":".

I use Nebo app for notes. It's available for iOS, Android and Windows too. Sync is possible via vendors cloud sync or you can use import / export feature to sync via other solutions.

You can type with pen or keyboard.

Thank you. I’m trying out Logseq right now where you can write scriptures as notes.

From what I researched:

Obsidian is more polished, has a very nice visual graph, works great for writing long form texts, has clean markdown (if you want to export notes later)

Logseq can have scriptures as notes, is better at linking ideas because the basic unit is not a page but a block.

You might be all over it already, however there now is a way to export your notes to an Excel (xls) file.

The most desired feature for me would be a way to have a note taking app that would record a link for a scripture on jwlibrary

I know that i can go to the bible, share the verse, copy the link, go to word and create a link, but that seems very cumbersome...

Any suggestions?

Hello, dear brother! I completely understand you. This is also the most desired feature for me. And finally, I found it the other day. I use Obsidian as a notebook for speech notes, and there's a third-party plugin for this program. However, this program will require you to invest a little time - you'll need to study it a bit better. But then all your efforts will pay off. Here's the link to this plugin and a description of what it can do.

I wish you blessings from Jehovah.
P.S. Forgive me if I wrote something incorrectly. An AI is translating me from Russian to English.

Dear brother, Could you share with me your experience and files of the NWT Bible translation? Although my native language is Russian, I am studying German, and I would be very glad to have our translation. With brotherly love, Faik
