I used to get outside and garden a lot but not so much now that I work full time.
I love hiking in the woods and mountains but I don’t get there often.
I’m working on my resistance training/weight lifting routine. Ive realized I should have started earlier in life but better late than never!
Pilates

Walking outside.
Interested in trying Essentrics

Rebounding

I honestly hate to sweat though. 😂

In service yesterday we were all sweating so much. It look a non dairy gelato, a cold drink and 30 minutes in air conditioning before I finally stopped sweating!  That’s my sacrifice. 🫠

At my age, getting 6 hours of sleep at night is a gargantuan exercise in futility. That is unless I go to a nearby recreation spot where I do a bit of incline walking. It helps to bring down my blood sugar as well as my cholesterol. I can't climb stairs on account of my bad knees so my doctor advised me to use a treadmill.

https://www.veincenteratiowaheart.com/blog/5-benefits-to-incline-walking/

Incline walking provides a stretch to the Achilles tendons and calves, which can benefit people with foot problems like plantar fasciitis. Walking at an incline can also aggravate lower back pain. People who are experiencing pain in this area should reduce the incline and build up their workout slowly as the back muscles begin to strengthen.

I was once into a lot of weightlifting.  I wanted to add aerobics to my routine, but finding time was hard.  I eventually gave up lifting weights because of work.  At one time I had a very strenuous job and I would come home from work and lay on the couch.  I was almost unable to get up all evening.  But I somehow was able to get up and go back to work the next morning.

Today I try to do as much walking as possible.  It is hard due to severe leg pain.  It gets painful sitting after about an hour, so I have to stand for a while.  When standing gets too painful I go back and sit some more or sometimes I lay on the bed for a while.

One report said that there are benefits from walking 6,000 steps per day or about 3 miles.  Above that there is very little benefit according to research by the Mayo clinic.  I am trying to get back up to 6,000 steps per day.  I was doing that daily until I fell and injured my knee and was told by the doctor to stay in bed until it healed unless I was going to the bathroom. After a year I still have some slight knee pain.  (When the knee was X-rayed, the doctor was surprised that nothing was broken.)  Since that fall there have been several setbacks that have prevented me from walking as much as I would like.

But I persevere with Jehovah's help.

  • 2 weeks later...

After getting caught up with this thread, I think this topic has gotten a bit off track, honestly.

With that said, I was into all kinds of different sports when I was young. Basketball, street hockey, soccer, flag football, volleyball, tennis, you name it, I’ve pretty much played it.

On a side note, I also liked to box and wrestle with my relatives when I was little 😉.

Nowadays most of my exercise comes from my work. I do lots of heavy lifting and I am on my feet all day, which keeps me active.

Otherwise, I am no gymrat. More into pushups, sit-ups, dips, suicides, whatever builds functional strength. Wouldn’t mind doing some farm work 🐮

Leviticus 19:18: “‘You must not take vengeance nor hold a grudge against the sons of your people, and you must love your fellow man as yourself.”

My favorite "workout" is bicep curls. Cardio, ice hockey is king (not a casual skate really skating hard) but i cut lawn for a living owning a business so i get my cardio in that way!

My favorite and really only piece of equipment one needs is a cable crossover machine with proper weight stacks. I have one and absolutely love it. You can work out every body part, though buying attachments is needed but cheap. Also a free bench helps but not needed.

There are some very cheap and easy to assemble ones on amazon for under $1000, just need ceilings high enough to fit the machine in! No public gym or membership needed again!

Anything though that gets the heart beating and makes you feel effort is good. No pain no gain!
