Transgender asking me to witness signature

Recommended Posts

I have a transgender customer.  She recognizes that we are not judgmental.  I have done my best to witness to her.

Because I have treated her impartially, she is asking me to witness her signature on her will.  Also, frankly, she has no one else to assist with this.

Her will leaves her estate to her executor, another transgender.

All I am being asked to do is to confirm that it was, indeed, the person who signed the will. I watched her sign.

Thoughts?

She could get a notary to do it and all they do is verify the identity.

Hadn't thought of that.   Apparently, two witnesses are required.  The notary should be able to manage that.

Sorry,  i wasn't suggesting that she use a notary, i was just saying that you would be doing the same thing a notary would do,  just verify her identity.

However,  if she has a substantial estate she may consider getting a living trust and getting it notarized.

Other than the practical aspects, I can't think of any scriptural reason not to participate as a witness. There is nothing wrong in that.

I tend to agree.  I thought about our video where the sister was faced with buying a multi-colored 'pride' bracelet, but it doesn't feel the same.

I don't see any endorsement of her lifestyle by her request.  But I wanted to consult.

She considers me a friend, but for the sake of the validity of her will, I plan to advise her to use a notary instead.

One time, a person in this community was going to prison. He was just messed up by his upbringing, but an okay guy. Before he left, he knew he was getting a tidy money settlement. He asked me to take charge of it. Total charge, with no oversight. I managed it for years, and when it was about time for his release, I hinted to his Mom, who, in reality was getting most of this money, that the pickings were now slim. I wanted him to have something to get him started when he got out.
He died. And that money I sort of hoarded for him went to his family to bury him.
They know. Ones in the community just know, and trust us.
It was funny. Way back in the hey-day of marijuana growing, we’d come upon growers trimming the buds. They paid no attention to us. Knew we were not going to run to the authorities.
They know. Thanks to our relationship with Jehovah.

I want to age without sharp corners, and have an obedient heart!

I'm curious about what legal challenges there may be in verifying the identity of a transgender person. Did she legally change her name, or does she use the name given at birth? What happens if you witness the signature, and she uses an identity that she has adopted but hasn't legalized.

Interesting situation.
