Floods in Lisbon, Portugal

In recent days there have been severe floods in the capital of Portugal, Lisbon. So far there has been one death (an elderly woman who drowned in her own house, in a basement). Much material damage has been reported across the city. Many means of transport and schools were closed and the population was warned not to leave their homes. In addition to the natural disaster, many sewers throughout the city were already clogged long before the rains started, due to lack of cleaning, which does not help the water to drain.

 

The extreme heat and fires across Europe in the summer were not enough, now we are beset with severe storms and floods. Putting all this together with political and financial instability, Europe is becoming a veritable chaos.

Scientist have coined the term “a warmer earth is a wetter earth” due to the fact that anytime there is an increase warming due to decrease aerosols there is an increase precipitation, therefore large amounts of rain is expected. We are seeing this all over the world now and it will be getting worst as the latest projection shows.
