That sounds like a very god idea.  Once you reach full retirement age, there is no limit to how much you can earn without affecting Social Security payments.  I just looked it up and I can put $8,000 into a traditional IRA or Roth IRA or split between the two.  I just have never found a source of income that I could use.  Of course, I would have to keep accurate records to pay income tax on my earnings.

I failed to mention that any amount you put into an IRA has to come from Social Security.  It cannot come from SS, company pensions, or IRA/401K disbursements.

When I started to correct myself, I made another mistake.  I meant to say Amounts contributed to an IRA must come from earned income.  Saying it must come from taxable income is a little confusing.  My pension and 401K are taxable.  Even my SS is partially taxable.  But I am pretty sure that I have to earn income to invest in a Roth IRA. I'll have to do more resear

As this is "ALL things personal finance" - what do we think of Tesla stock - up or down - stay away?

Short-term buying opportunity for sure.  Local top around $320, approximately.  Long-term is not clear to me, maybe drop to $220 again?  Overall...can't go wrong with Tesla.

Sadly, I was on that rollercoaster and felt good. It went up 25% in a short time, but I wasn't watching and it tanked 40% - making me at a loss of 15% overall. I got out the moment I saw it hit $223.55. It dropped even lower and I just .... I am not sure I can stomach the ups and downs. Today it is $277.

Their sales all over the world is also tanking and then there is the recalls .... It just feels like it is hitting tremendous head winds.

I saw my first self-driving cars in Sedona, AZ last week, but they were Jaguars.

This is why I don't look at the stock market or crypto much.  Make your picks on what should be good long-term, and just let it ride.  And definitely don't put all eggs in one basket....

Or let something like Wealthfront deal with the ups and downs.  Not worth the stress!!  We've got enough on our plates to worry about.

I learned the charts pretty well and made some pretty impressive calls before.  But no amount of money can buy the peace of sleeping easy...

I think I am going to wait until after April 2 and then see what the tariff or non-tariffs turn out to be.

The White Houses claims the tariffs will foster domestic manufacturing.

It also could put a financial squeeze on automakers that depend on global supply chains.

Press secretary Karoline Leavitt said she would leave it to the president to flesh out his plans to tax foreign-made autos and parts, which could be complicated as even U.S. automakers source their components from around the world.

Shares in General Motors have fallen roughly 1.7% in Wednesday afternoon trading. Ford’s stock was down roughly 1.5%.

Yeah, you’re right. I forgot Social Security can be taxed under certain circumstances. Yes, money invested in a Roth IRA would have to be earned income.

It seems odd that Trump would declare his Liberation Day the day after April Fools Day...:whistling:

With the stock market being down because of the U.S. levying tariffs, now is a good time to act upon advice like this. Look at the current situation as an opportunity to buy cheap stocks 😊

Which is great if you pulled your money BEFORE this happened so you have some to invest, but if you didn't - now you have even less.

Yep, that's exactly what I've been doing. I bought in when the market dipped after the tariffs were announced. And then I bought again a few days ago and then again today.

That's why I prefer to keep more than the 3 to 6 months living expenses rule. I have 7 years worth of living expenses saved up. Some would say that's excessive, but I prefer to have plenty of cash on hand for large expenses that could pop up (and I’ve had quite a few in the past 2 years) or for things like this, a great investment opportunity.

which stocks would you recommend?
Tesla? Which seems to have more room to fall.

I don't do individual stocks, too risky.

If you want tech related, buy QQQ. If you want overall market, get SPY.
