Selling organs legally

Recommended Posts

Argentina could become the first country to legalize selling your organs, when the new president is sworn in in a few weeks: https://www.huffpost.com/entry/who-is-javier-milei_n_655b57a5e4b0704d40f92eb8

Would you give a non-vital organ freely? How about if you needed the money?

I can honestly say that I have been so financially desperate/hopeless that if there was a legal way to sell a kidney, I would have definitely considered it. What's that worth - $10-15,000?  That much money would have helped me a lot.  I would help me now... but at least I currently have a viable job.  But times have been bleak, my friend... 😢

Is it ethical for a Christian though?

I could only find one result in the WOL for selling organs, from 1991:

Quote

India’s Spare-Parts Trade

“India now has the dubious honour of having probably the largest number of transplants of kidneys taken from live donors not related to the patient,” states India Today. It is estimated that over 2,000 kidneys from live donors are now sold each year in the country. Debts and poverty lie behind most sales. “We were desperate and the only other option left for me was to become a bootlegger or a local dada involved in crime,” explained the father of three children. He and his wife each sold a kidney. “We chose the honourable way,” he said. With high prices being paid for body parts, the sale of corneas and skin from live donors has also increased. “Commercial trafficking in human organs has become the biggest medical ethics issue in the country,” said a prominent doctor.

If it became legal for a person to sell their own organs, then I wonder if that would lead to parents being able to legally sell their childrens organs.
