What is your occupation. There is a great variety of Jobs, and does it allow you flexible time to do extra in the ministry.?

When I left school, I did Mechanical work with my Dad repairing and taking appart the old washing Machines and rust removing and

spray painting to make them ready for reselling. Then I moved on to House cleaning, Then Strata Cleaning through a friend and these

Jobs allowed me time to pioneer and Now I am a full time Mum.

I work P/t in a Pharmacy Mon-Fri on an 'as needed' basis. Usually abourt 20hrs per week.

The other job I do is merchansdise and set up new stores for a big Telco company . .1-2 stores per month for 2 days each.

The Pharmacy store allows my schedule to flex around to suit the Telco work . .I list my jobs one month in advance and the Pharmacy moves my shifts around to suit.

It means I have more mid-week time for the ministry and I rarely work weekends (weekend pay rate for the merchandising is FANTASTIC) but too dear to do often.

Hubby quit retail jewellery sales a while back to get away from the seven day trading shifts . .(for no extra pay BTW.)

He does window cleaning now and except for the winter downtime in July now . .he does OK. Works 2-3 days and we have more flex time together.

I do In-Home-Support. I work 7 days at my clients home and then 7 days at home. I can listen to the meeting at work or go to the local KH. One of my clients likes to go to the KH on Sunday with me, the other one goes to a church that sings a lot. During the week I'm working, I can do whatever I want during the hours of 8:30 to 2:00 because the ladies are at a daycare program. I try to use that time wisely, study, service, etc. Easy job for me, and then Grumpy doesn't have to work at his trade too much. He remodels homes and fixes stuff but it is hard on him because of his age.

I work three days a week, Tues-Thurs. I love my job, the schedule is very flexible, I can change it whenever I need a day off. If I need Tuesday off, I can change my Tuesday hrs to Monday. So I get my day off, but I don't lose my money.

Doctor's offices and hospitals hire my company to process their medical record requests. Every week, doctor's and hospital's receive requests for medical records from insurance companies for claims, attorney's for lawsuits or just people wanting their records cause they are switching doctors. I go to my assigned offices once a week and scan the medical records, after I verify the authorizations are HIPPA compliant. When I get home, I upload the records to my company, who then bills the requester for the medical records. Once my company receives payment, they mail the records out on a disk, or with insurance and attorney's, they can view the records at the company's secure website. My company also stores medical records in a warehouse as well. Doctor's have to keep patient medical records for I think 10 yrs, so they will store their patient records that are old in our warehouse. My company also handles medical record shredding. Many doctor's are putting their medical records in electronic format, so they will hire us to shred their paper charts and upload the paper charts in electronic format.

The best part of my job is I work alone, it's stress free, and it allows me alot of flexibility. I go to my first office on Tuesday, do the records, leave, then head to my second office, etc. I do alot of driving, but I am reimbursed for my gas, and I am on the clock the entire day. So if I am sitting in traffic for an hour, I am being paid.

My company provides me a laptop and portable scanner. I also have a great boss. If I need an hour off in the middle of the day to do an errand, I just clock out via phone, do my errand, then clock back in when I get to my next doctor office. If I need Tuesday off one week, I just tell my offices, "I can't be here on Tuesday next week, but I will come on Monday". What's great is my boss does not care if I switch days, as long as I get my work done, and the doctor's don't care if I switch days, as long as I go in once that week and take care of the records. So I can take a day off, work another day, and not lose any money. The week of my district convention, I am planning on working Mon-Wed, rather then my normal hours of Tues-Thurs. This way I can have Thursday off to get ready for the dist convention. So being a mom, this flexibility is very awesome.

It's not a hard job, no stress, and I really need that. Being by myself as well is nice. I don't have to deal with customers, coworkers, answering phones, lol. I just go to my offices, sit in their conference room, do the records then leave.

It's a real good part time job.

Well, I am retired so I have no job right now. The last ten months I had my grandson who is 9, so raising him was my job. However, I retired last September when I worked for a long term care nursing facility. I am an RN, and was the Risk Manager. Except for working Monday through Friday 8 to 4:30, I really liked my job. It did not afford me much time off for service, but I did get out every Saturday and then for an hour or so on Sunday afternoons. I was responsible for self reporting accidents and incidents at the nursing home to AHCA. I was in charge of the QA Committee, the Safety Committee, grievances from residents and families, and assisting the Director of Nursing. However, I found out that my boss was having the nurses on the floor alter their medication records. The workplace became hostile, and I quit. I am receiving unemployment benefits due to the "hostile work environment."

My boss also refused to give me vacation the year previous so I could attend the district convention, and he told me I HAD to attend the Christmas Party for the residents. I explained I am a JW, but my explanation fell on deaf ears.

Well, that was my job. I want to do something different...I have health problems that will not allow me to work as a nurse on the floor. I am sure something will come along. However, I have auxiliary pioneering since March, and now THIS is my job!

What would you like to do or what work we do now?

Anyway. I studied computer programmer but never work in this.

Before prison I worked in the family business as a repair and paint vehicles. This did the job until 1997. For 12 years I worked as a salesman in machinery. The last 3 years I am a shoemaker and have my own shoe repair shop.

I just started to work for a Podiatrist as a Medical Receptionist at the end of May. It is only 1 day per week for now until the practice gets busier and then will increase to the max of 3 days per week. It's so interesting and enjoyable and I am still able to be at home for my 2 young children and go out in service every Thursday. The small amount I earn still helps the household, it's amazing what that little extra can do!

It's funny how I got the job too, the podiatrist I now work for has been our family's podiatrist for the past year or so. I took my son in for an appointment and when we went to pay the bill he apologised for the disorganised state of things as he was in the process of putting on a receptionist. I thought for a moment and wondered whether I should say something as I had been looking for part time work, particularly in the Medical field as that is what I'm interested in, although I had been knocked back a few times at other places due to my lack of experience. Anyway, I mustered up the courage to ask about the job, how many hours etc and he said it would be just for 1 day a week to start with and if I was interested to take a look at the ad on the internet, I figured he wasn't too interested in hiring someone that way so I didn't take much notice, I even forgot to look at the online ad when I got home! Fast forward to the next morning, I got a phone call early in the day, it was Barry our Podiatrist, my first thoughts were he wanted to discuss my son's feet lol as we'd had an appointment the day before but it wasn't that. He was calling me about the job I asked about! He gave me some information on what the duties would be, I then told him I had zero experience in the medical field or as a receptionist but he didn't seem to mind and asked if I wanted to come in for an interview at 12pm the next day! I said yes of course, I went in for the interview and I got the job on the spot >:D< I asked him what made him hire me so quickly when 2 days before I was bringing in my children to see him as a patient lol he said he doesn't look for experience as he can teach me what I need to know, he looks for personality and over the course of the year we had been coming in to see him as patients he noticed I was friendly and very down to earth and he'd much rather someone like that greet his patients than someone with loads of experience but not good with people. So that's how I got my job!

Thanks Jan! Yes he is a very kind and pleasant boss to work for, I am really enjoying it. :D I remember I kept thanking him for hiring me without any experience and now I am doing so well, I've learnt how to use the software very efficiently and will gain even more experience with other things as I go, it's taking me a little while to really get going though because being there only once a week means I tend to forget what I learnt the previous week lol, but he's typed out loads of instructions for me which are a great help!

I found this quite a play on words about occupations:

My first job was working at an Orange Juice factory, but got canned I couldn't concentrate.

Then I worked in the woods as a Lumber Jack, but I couldn't hack it, so they gave me the axe.

After that, I tried to be a Tailor, but I just wasn't suited for it- mainly because it was a sew-sew job.

Next, I tried working in a Muffler Factory, but that was to exhausting.

Then, I tried to be a Chef figured it would add a little spice to my life, but I just didn't have the thyme.

I attempted to be a Deli Worker, but any way I sliced it I couldn't cut the mustard.

My best job was a Musician, but eventually I found I wasn't noteworthy.

I studied a long time to become a Doctor, but I didn't have any patience.

Next, was a job in a Shoe Factory, I tried but I just didn't fit in.

I became a Professional Fisherman, but discovered that I couldn't live on my net income.

I managed to get a good job working for a Pool Maintenance Company but the work was to draining.

So then I got a job in a Workout Center, but they said I wasn't fit for the job.

After many years of trying to find steady work, I finally got a job as a Historian until I realized there was no future in it.

My last job was working in Starbucks, but I had to quit because it was always the same old grind.

I was drilling holes at a lumber mill but I found that it was too boring!

I quit my job at the casino. Yes, the chips were down.

Then I quit my job at the laundry mat. You guessed it, I was all washed up!

Seriously, I had a pretty varied work history. I was a stay-at-home mom and bookkeeper for my husband's contracting business until age 43, when I decided I had to get my GED. I applied for a government job, since that was the biggest employer in our town. Right away, I landed a job as the secretary to the Sector Manager of FAA Airways Facility. Then transferred to FAA Flight Service. After being there for a time, I took the Real Estate exam and got my license as a real estate salesperson. I t didn't take me long to figure out that I wasn't going to give up my nights and weekends so I got a salaried job as a Land Law Examiner with Bureau of Land Management which was interesting work and I issued the first commecrial lease that Alaska had ever issued. That job eventually was transferred to Anchorage and I didn't want to go with it. Later I went to work for Alaska Fire Service in the aircraft accounting office- a job I really liked. It was like no other accounting work I ever had done. It involved 7-8 million $ a month spent on firefighting aircraft just in Alaska. I was forced to resign to be able to go to our DC (which Is a whole 'nother story I'll write about later). When I returned from "Lovers of Freedom"!! DC. The manager of the Fire Service gave me a job as secretary to the Aviation Manager, the job I retired from. My new boss said I would never again have to fight to go to my assemblies and I never had to,thanks be to Jehovah. What a lot of experiences I have had since I first ventured out my front door!

  • 2 weeks later...

I worked many years in office settings. I worked for the Credit Bureau of Greater Miami, and often got calls from the FBI checking up on people! I worked for a tux shop doing formal wear fittings for special ocassions. Then I got a great job working for two brothers (elders each in other cities). I also worked with their wives. It was a 'family' in every sense of the word. I first did office stuff then became head of their art department. They did faux etching on glass, a process they invented. It was great! I designed for their distributors, stuff going on the glass. I was so free and often 'in the zone' - I LOVED it! Then I became ill and came home to design from my house. Did that for a number of years. All of this dried up when the money ran out in the world!

Now, I crochet professionally. I make absolutely beautiful things for people. I made one of my best friends their wedding dress out of small threadlike yarn. I make afghans, shawls, clothing: hats, gloves, scarves, footies, sweaters, baby items that I am currently selling to various local stores. I just got in an order for Sock Monkey purses! How wonderful to be able to be so creative and actually get money for it. I don't make anything like a salary because it is not that kind of work. I have always been busy crocheting for 40 years now. I might as well get money for it now.

If you wish to see some of my work you can click here: http://crochetdivas.com/ The baby on the home page is a sister's beautiful child. She is one of the most gorgeous kids I have ever seen. On the gallery pics you can see my daughter, Julie (in blue coat and scarf) and my grandson, Jude as a small, fat baby. Enjoy!

It is great finding out what each of us does for a living!

I think crochet is a clever skill. I would watch my nana do this & she tried to teach me but I couldn't pick it up. Nana was incredible.. She made lots of doylies

and the little covers that go over the milk jugs, I wasn't able to keep alot of her knits.. but now I wish I had..I don't see to many people do this anymore.
