"Could AI sway the 2024 election?"

Recommended Posts

I think it is interesting that the government appears to be moving very slowly to keep deep fakes from affecting the political campaigns and according to this article they don't plan to do anything until after the 2024 US presidential election. That will add more controversy to the elections results.

Could AI sway the 2024 election? Here's what's being done nationally to stop deepfakes. (msn.com)

No, says Ashley Casovan, the Managing Director of the International Association of Privacy Professionals Artificial Intelligence Governance Center.

“It’s really important to not only understand how [AI technology is] being used, and then how they’re being used, sometimes maliciously, but then what types of different mitigation measures we need to put in place ... we really need hard legislation,” Casovan said.

“While these acts are continuing to happen and the technologies are starting to get more and more pervasive, it’s never going to be too late to put appropriate rules, appropriate training, and other types of safeguards in place.”

I find it interesting reading articles like this that warn of possible issues, but then have no actual solutions. Just platitudes like "we need safeguards", "HARD legislation", etc.

What would that “hard” legislation look like, what would be those “safeguards” (more AI to watch out for AI), or “training”. What would that training look like? Is there any of that training available?

Thank God we know the solution and it is coming ->  The Kingdom! Without that ... it is no wonder the world is in such a mess and constantly on high alert.

I wouldn't be surprised if Russia or China try to use deep fakes to sway the election. No matter what happens I suspect that someone will cry 'foul' after the election and there may be another post-election riot. This world is a mess!

Interesting. However the link leads us to a US government site, therefore left-wing. And it accuses the right-wing of producing this deepfake. But later today I was on a right-wing news site (can't pinpoint which one) and they were discussing this same deepfake too. But they were accusing the left-wings of making the deepfake!

Just thinking about that for a minute, is it easier to deep fake someone with a beard or without a beard?

applying Paul's words to this; one text might be amended to 'whose will is that all sorts of people should be swayed and come to an accurate knowledge of truth' (adapted from 1Tim 2:4)

Dont think this type of subject is suitable for this forum?

Welcome to the forum, can you tell us why you think a news article about Artificial Intelligence possibly swaying a political election is inappropriate for us to discuss here?

As several members have pointed out, it just adds to the long list of things that confuse people today. It's no wonder they feel they have no way out.

JW.org is currently featuring an article about people not trusting politicians. This article shows how AI contributes to that mistrust. I thought it was very relevant but I would appreciate knowing what you think.

In typical fashion of governments of this world, by the time they do pass a law or figure out to enforce it, the problem will be so big the law will be considered a deep fake. 😂

Jer 29:11-“For I well know the thoughts I am thinking toward you, declares Jehovah, thoughts of peace, and not calamity, to give you a future and a hope.”

Psalm 56:3-“When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.”
Romans 8:38-”For I am convinced...”

Not nearly as much as Biden's late stage dementia. I saw the debate, and I doubt AI could have faked all that. He's a lot worse than in 2020, and, personally, I don't think he'll survive more than another year. This is 1000% not a political opinion, but he should be in a care home, not leading a country. I'm gonna call it right now. Probably by the end of July, there's going to be a new Democrat nominee for president, and I'm, personally predicting either Gavin Newsom or Michelle Obama.
