Sleeping Habits
“People in Asia burn the midnight oil, sleeping later than most Americans and Europeans and waking up earlier, a global survey on sleep habits has found,” reports the news channel Aljazeera. More than 14,000 people in 28 countries were asked when they usually go to bed and when they get up. In Portugal, 3 out of 4 people go to bed after midnight. Asians are the earliest out of bed, led by Indonesia, “where 91% said they are out of bed by 7am.” The Japanese sleep the least. Over 40 percent get six hours of sleep or less each night. At the other end of the list are the Australians. Not only do they have the highest number of those who go to bed before 10:00 p.m. but almost a third of the respondents there said that, on average, they get more than nine hours of sleep each night. g05 12/22

My wife and 2 daughters get up between 2-3 AM for their work schedule and my other daughter starts work at midnight. I used to get up at 5:30 AM back when I had to drive 1½ hours each way each day for work. Now that I am semi-retired, I have my alarm set for 7:30 AM.

My wife needs a full 8 hours each night, but I have been fine with 5 hours a night since I was about 16 years old.

As an older person, I find it difficult to get through the night without the need for personal relief, which often means waking between 2 - 5am. The the difficulty is getting back to sleep, as things start to buzz around in your mind. I set a 7am alarm and am usually awake, but often already feeling tired.

Even though I born and live in Australia, I aint no Australian by my sleeping habits, but more like the Japanese.

In bed about 11pm, and out of bed by 5:30am, and earlier during the summer time when the sun is up before 5am (EDST).

I normally go to bed fairly early, around 9 PM.  I am normally up between 4 and 5 (rarely sleep until 6) in the morning.  I was working from 3 PM until 11 PM at one time.  My hours changed to a 6 AM shift.  I did not know where my alarm clock was and I woke up every morning and was early for work.  One day I overslept, rushed to get ready, and barely made it to work on time.  That afternoon I made a diligent search and found the alarm clock.  I was never actually late.

I rarely sleep past 5 AM EVER!
