Cuba - Power goes out on entire island

Cuba’s prime minister, Manuel Marrero, on Thursday blamed the ongoing blackouts on the deteriorating infrastructure, fuel shortages and rising demand among its people.

While demand for electricity has gone up, the supply of oil has been greatly limited. Cuba’s ally and main oil supplier, Venezuela, has decreased the amount of shipments it sends to the island. Oil shipments from other countries, like Russia and Mexico, have also been greatly diminished.

WOW! If that lasts for weeks - how do you cook and keep food from spoiling.

I think their staples are mainly rice and beans.
Couldn’t hurt us to have some on hand. Cooking, in the country with a wood stove, we’d manage, but the poor folks in the cities. We take a lot for granted.
We are used of the no power routine, and are pretty well set up. Maybe for months. Not something to look forward to. Especially families with kids.

I want to age without sharp corners, and have an obedient heart!

I can’t imagine!  Camping full time?!?  No thank you!

Jer 29:11-“For I well know the thoughts I am thinking toward you, declares Jehovah, thoughts of peace, and not calamity, to give you a future and a hope.”

Psalm 56:3-“When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.”
Romans 8:38-”For I am convinced...”

You would not think so if you also had no running water in a big city where there is no place to get any.

Cuba hit by second nationwide blackout amid worsening energy crisis

When ALL power goes out, then the power that runs pumps for water filtration and to distribute it to various water networks also goes out.

Without running water it won't take long for things to from "camping" to really bad.

Millions of people have been left without power over the last several days as the aging Cuban electrical grid repeatedly collapsed.

Wow.

St. Maarten has been dealing with power outages for months now, due to failing infrastructure of the power generators. Hours at a time, often several times per day. My niece lives there, and it's brutal. Last week her car was stuck on a hoist after she had new tires put on. And that was just a minor inconvenience, compared to lack of air conditioning, refrigeration, etc.

It would not be good to own an electric car there

It sounds like they can't get fuel either.

Side note: it takes electricity to pump gas into a gasoline vehicle. No power means few things can be "driven" for long.

We were thinking about flying to St. Maarten this coming April. Maybe we should wait? 🤔

Most hotels have generators, so you should be ok.

As if Cuba didn't have enough issues:

While weakening is expected over the mountains of Cuba, the NHC says Oscar is forecast to remain a tropical storm when it leaves the coast.

The biggest threat with Oscar includes tropical-storm-force winds, isolated rainfall amounts of 20 inches, dangerous flash floods, and storm surge.
