Want to get a group of friends together for refreshing evening - can you recommend some games or activities?

Recommended Posts

Can someone recommend good games that can be played at large friends' gatherings, like 40 people in attendance?

We want to have our whole group over and want to make the evening a good memory for all. Good SPIRITUAL event.

Would prefer games without having different teams to avoid competition. something related to service, sharing experiences, describing Bible characters, etc.

TIA!

Sorry I can't help with any ideas, but I was thinking of the games we could play in the New System

Can you imagine inviting Balaam over to play 'pin the tail on the donkey' ? :whistling:

There are a number of games people play at wedding and baby showers that could be used at a gathering.

Like the clothespin game ... where the host hands out a clothespin, chip clip, paperclip or some item easily clipped in a collar, shirttail, pocket ... then you tell each person the "secret word" that you are not supposed to say - it needs to be a word commonly used in conversation. If someone you are talking to says that word, you take their clips ... their clip and any they have collected. At a set time, you count the clips and the person with the most clips is the winner.

One caution: while this is a fine idea

You have to be careful that it does not seem like a "meeting" because all the games are "study material". If they are there for food and fun, they are not expecting a Q&A meeting part.

There's some online  games that can be customized ... a young brother here has made his own game on the site using Bible names or theocratic things. It's basically pass the tablet and the person holds it up above their head and everyone has to give him/her hints, but not saying the word. You get scored for every correct answer. Otherwise when we have that many here, we get a water slide in the front section for adults and kids. Set up games tables with cards, dice and other board games. Or we set up a karaoke and sing original songs or kingdom melodies.

When I organised a gathering of all the sisters in my hall quite a few people brought board games , card games, puzzles etc and then people played what they wanted too. People said they liked that there wasn’t pressure to get involved or make a fool of themselves 😂😂

we have arranged an early evening buffet for the congregation We set tables out for groups of brothers and sisters along with older children, and arranged a children's area for smaller children overseen by two sisters, who were happy to do so.

Those sat at tables joined in with a quiz and some other entertainment, but did so as a table-team. It went off well with no embarrassment for anyone. We managed to get some of the more shy ones to sit with a helpful group, but they had no obligation to do any more than they were happy with.

Mostly, our brothers and sisters are just happy to get together and chat, so any other entertainment is secondary.

I don’t playing Bible games during gatherings which suppose to be “entertainment”

They have potential to become a “test” of knowledge and bring some stress or anxiety feelings.
We played once, this is what happened.
One sister told me that she is dealing with depression and she is not good with knowledge of the Bible, and easily forgets what she learns.
She enjoyed gathering but does not want to go through “test” again.
From that event onwards I realised that Bible games can become a little like “prove of knowledge” and not enjoyed by some.
Therefore I do not include them in the entertainment.
Yesterday we had gathering and played Dixit, everyone enjoyed it.

I would play “ Bible” game with others, but only with the right group.

So am I against BIBLE games?

I am in fact developing a boardgame which is fully based on the Bible.
It has 3 seperate decks of cards, with 3 levels of difficulty and help cards.
It follows all missionary routes of Paul and events that he had encountered. You progress on the map and travel forward if you managed to guess the events etc in particular location. I am thinking of doing JESUS travels as well. (I have other ideas as well)
I am intending to produce the game professionally but only for my use.

My experience: Do not try to 'manage' the crowd too much. Crowds have their own dynamics. Really good and close, personal conversations can take place if you let them. Small tables (5 persons each) works well. Let the conversation flow naturally. Do not overmanage.

I was at a gathering. The conversation went well. High, positive spirits. Then someone in charge decided they were going to 'follow the program' rather than giving in to the (already very postitive!) group dynamics. One could feel the balloon landing. It was harder to pick it up after.

If you hear the crowd go silent(er), switch to plan B (some board game etc), otherwise, just let it develop naturally.

My two cents.
