Zoom with easier login for elder people

Recommended Posts

Hello friends!
We have a elderly brother whose health has deteriorated and will now attend the meetings thru Zoom.
But several meetings have not worked since he is too shaky to insert meeting ID and password.

I tried to search how others have solved this but could not find a answer so I will ask instead.
He have a android tablet. He needs to be able to attend both meetings and field service. We have two separate ID for that.
I am pretty good att computers but tablets is not my game...

There is a couple of ideas I have but most likely I am overthinking or over engineering a solution.
We are a small congregation so we do not have resources to send someone there for every meeting.
On a Windows it's easy, just make a shortcut on the desktop for the Zoomlink, maybe there is something similar in the android world.
I have also thinked of a TeamViewer solution so that we can start meeting on his tablet from distance.

I installed this https://github.com/sircharlo/jw-launcher for a other elderly sister with a windows computer and this worked just perfectly!

But the elderly brother does not have a computer so i am out of options.
So can someone help me out with a hint or solution how to solve this so he can see the meetings on Zoom?

Thanks in advance!

Hello!

It is possible to simplify the process for your elderly brother if you have a Pro account on Zoom. You can add his free account, created with his email, and link it. Then, you can invite him to meetings. He will receive a simple call and won't need to enter the meeting ID and password anymore. This method works on any operating system. However, he will need to install Zoom and create a free account the first time.

This is what we do for our elderly brothers and sisters, and it works very well.

For a few years I’ve done this (it works even for free zoom account):

1. send yourself a message (now appears in the team chat tab) that includes the meeting ID, and optionally the password

2. then I can just tap the meeting ID whenever I want to join it, it will only ask for the password now (which is also written there)

For our elderly friends unable to use a computer or tablet, we use KHConf in combination with Zoom.  They are able to watch using a Roku hooked up to a television.

Of course if they want to comment, zoom is the only option.

That can be improved even more. You can set up Zoom to include the encrypted password in the link. So anyone who has the link just needs to tap on it and it will automatically access.

If you need to use two different IDs for meetings and service, you could create a shortcut for each on the screen following the procedure Alex mentioned above. Or the congregation could simplify its life and use only one ID for everything, saving everyone trouble and confusion. :)

With today's technology - is it possible to set up a voice macro - something like, "Hey Google - connect to my meeting"

That is what I have been doing, and it works great. I create a message in the Zoom Chat, and I have a message for every Zoom meeting that I want to attend. The Message contains the full link, so all I do is click the link to connect.
