Yesterday I had my one year anniversary with my doctor of being cancer free. I was diagnosed with bladder cancer in December of 2023.
The worst part of the diagnosis was the surgeon not being happy about my stance on blood. I stood firm with him about my choice.I recall just before being put under for the surgery I told the team I have great confidence and faith in you and thank you for respecting my view, really God's view of blood. After the surgery was over the doctor came in and was checking on me and telling me the surgery went well. Yesterday we were talking and this doctor who I thought was very adversarial was laughing with me and showing me some fish he caught in Florida (Tarpon i think, I'm not a fisherman).

I have had to go every 3 months for a checkup the past year. Now I just have to get checked every 6 months for the rest of my life. A small inconvenience  for me. My biggest issue in front of me is my memory loss. I am having real issues with short-time memories.  I saw both my parents fade away to dementia and to be honest that terrifies me. But for today I celebrate being cancer free. The past year has allowed me to look at life a lot differently. I still have other health issues that are dragging me down physically and emotionally and sometimes spiritually.

And wept when it was all done
For bein' done too soon "-Neil Diamond
