‘Bank on the fact’ that more pandemics are coming. Here’s why, and are we ready?

Recommended Posts

A 7 minute read.  Story by Hadley Barndollar, masslive.com

Part of the story reads:

"Whether the U.S. is ready is a split answer, experts told MassLive. Over the past five years, there have been leaps in science, but also a social and cultural backpedaling.

A multitude of scientific and medical advancements have been achieved since the COVID pandemic struck the nation in March 2020 — the development of at-home infectious disease testing, multiple mRNA vaccines, antiviral treatments and even wastewater surveillance to detect viral activity.

The public’s awareness and general literacy of how infectious diseases spread is also elevated now.

In that sense, the country has a new baseline when it comes to facing the next disease epidemic.

But socially, culturally and politically, “we are in worse shape,” Nuzzo contends.

Growing vaccine hesitancy, politicization of public health and actions by the second Trump administration are all alarm bells for Nuzzo — a foreboding for the next pandemic." -link to story https://www.msn.com/en-us/public-safety-and-emergencies/health-and-safety-alerts/bank-on-the-fact-that-more-pandemics-are-coming-here-s-why-and-are-we-ready/ar-AA1ABluC?ocid=BingNewsBrowse

I thought of the recent part in our MWM from the week of March 2-9 "Demonstrate Trust in Jehovah’s Organization". The story said again and I quote "But socially, culturally and politically we are in worse shape". To me the key word missing is "spiritually" as they do not have the same direction that we get from Jehovah. I see so much of the world as a mixture of iron and clay that the book of Daniel wrote about "And as the toes of the feet were partly of iron and partly of clay, so the kingdom will be partly strong and partly fragile. 43 Just as you saw iron mixed with soft clay, they will be mixed with the people;* but they will not stick together, one to the other, just as iron does not mix with clay." The reference footnote to verse 43 * "Or “the offspring of mankind,” that is, the common people.

Were lessons learned from the last pandemic?

Ten experts interviewed for this article largely agreed that the health establishment lost public trust after bungling the initial handling of the pandemic. Existing pandemic plans were faulty or ignored. Shortages of protective gear and inadequate testing rendered containment of the virus impossible. As time wore on, government scientists failed to emphasize that their recommendations would change as new data came in.

“We totally blew it,” former NIH Director Francis Collins said, in a discussion sponsored by Braver Angels, a group that promotes dialogue among political opponents. Though he blamed disinformation about vaccines for many deaths, he also wished public health officials had said “we don’t know” more often.

So, are they preparing for another one or are they letting the very people who would prepare for it go? Are they engaging in a multinational approach to ensure the earliest possible warnings or is there disengagement?

The right and left don’t even agree on the correct questions to ask about the pandemic, said Josh Sharfstein, a vice dean of the Bloomberg School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University.

“Everyone knew that 9/11 was a terrorist attack,” he said. “But what the pandemic was and represents—there’s so much disagreement still.”

“We let children down, we let poor people down,” Ioannidis said in closing remarks at the Stanford conference. “We let our future down.”

My conclusion - We NEED the Kingdom!!!!

May God help us until He takes full control!

I thought of the long thread about lack of shepherding visits and how this ties in. I appreciate that the brothers elders specifically are getting trained in the area of these type of calls. Now is the time to build up those in our care! And that works both ways, sheep need to be more receptive to visits. And yes that means asking for one in addition to the elders being aware of those in their group. It reminds me of a talk by a British Brother, Bill Harris in his talk Close Ranks and Survive. I have a copy of it, if interested PM me.

Most of the 80,000 federal workers responsible for researching diseases, inspecting food and administering Medicare and Medicaid under the auspices of the Health and Human Services Department were emailed an offer to leave their job for as much as a $25,000 payment as part of President Donald Trump’s government cuts.
