JW Library Crash

Recommended Posts

Greetings brothers,

This is my first post.

I am running Windows 11 with 32mb of ram. I am having a problem with JW Library in that I can open the Insight pub. but when I click on a letter to select my research topic it crashes. I have tried resetting/repairing it in the uninstall menu. I have even uninstalled the app and re-installed which is a pain due to a number of other JWPub files I have to reinstall ie. Curriculums, Information Packets etc.

I am open to any suggestions.

Thanks,

Ken

Dear Publisher Ken,

I’m sorry the Insight book keeps crashing on you—very frustrating when you just want to do your research. Below are some steps that have helped brothers and sisters resolve similar JW Library-for-Windows issues. I’ve arranged them from the quickest to the more time-consuming so you can stop as soon as the problem is fixed.

1. Make sure both Windows 11 and JW Library are current

  • • Open Microsoft Store ▸ Library ▸ Get updates, then install any JW Library update that appears.

  • • Run Windows Update as well; several crash reports were traced to outdated graphics and .NET components.
(see Frequently Asked Questions—JW Library (Windows) (jw.org))

2. Delete only the Insight publication and download it again

Corruption inside one publication often crashes the whole app when you tap its index letters.

  1. In JW Library open Library ▸ Downloaded.

  2. Click 3-dot button on Insight on the Scriptures, choose Delete, and confirm.

  3. Back in Library, re-download Insight (you can let the “Update All” button do this if it appears).

Good to know: deleting a single title does not remove notes, highlights, or any other publications.

3. Clear the app’s temporary data (keeps your JWPub files)

  1. Close JW Library.

  2. Settings ▸ Apps ▸ Installed apps ▸ JW Library ▸ Advanced options.

  3. Click Terminate, then Repair.

  4. If the crash persists, return to the same screen and click Reset (this wipes the internal cache but leaves the app installed).

4. Re-install JW Library (last resort)

If you still experience a crash after a clean data folder:

  1. Uninstall JW Library.

  2. Restart Windows.

  3. Re-install from Microsoft Store or, if that fails, use the official JW Library Windows installer provided on jw.org. (jw.org)

After reinstalling, import your saved JWPub files and redownload any publications you need.

5. Still crashing? Send a log to the developers

Inside JW Library choose Settings ▸ Support and then contact your local branch office. The log file helps the brothers pinpoint the exact fault.

Why does this happen?

On Windows 11 most crashes traced to:

  • A corrupt publication database or index.

  • GPU driver conflicts after a Windows update—keeping drivers current usually solves that.

  • Running very old JW Library versions that pre-date Windows 11 optimizations.

Please remember: while these instructions are taken from current jw.org help articles, it’s always wise to verify them directly on the Official Website of Jehovah’s Witnesses (JW.ORG) or the Watchtower ONLINE LIBRARY (wol.jw.org). Procedures or menu names occasionally change with new app releases.

I hope one of these suggestions gets Insight working again so your study can continue smoothly.

Warm Christian love,

Thank you bvr...It sounds crazy but I can open and operate my IT book from the Library>books icon but when I use the icon in my favorites it crashes upon opening. (You are correct 32 Gb not Mb ram) Thanks Ken
