Happy Star Trek Day!

Recommended Posts

Back on Thursday, September 8, 1966 we had a black & white console TV with a 23" screen. Although I watched the series when it first aired, I never saw Star Trek in color until sometime in the 1970's when they were in re-runs and we finally had a color TV

Interesting the differences in impression: I grew up on that materializing and dematerializing idea because I was a HUGE Star Trek fan ... never thought of it as anything else other than a future possibility [as a Catholic]. Perhaps the little cowboy kid in Willie Wonka also put a fun spin on the idea to teleportation. 😮🙂🧠

I'm still somewhat of a sci-fi nut at 62. I found "Lost in Space" just as exciting ... before it got too silly in their storylines. I guess the term is "campy".

@Miss Bea It's funny you mention "Tribbles", because that was as campy as Star Trek got (imo)—which is to say, ST wasn't at all campy. And as a kid I had no clue what ST was doing by way of social commentary for the "grownup" world. To me, they were just amazing and imaginative stories each week.

Same here. I discovered it in syndication in 1972 on a little black and white TV. Didn’t have color until a couple of years later!

I am watching ST Voyager almost daily. In season 4, I think.

Is Star Trek day a thing? It's the first I've heard about it

Yes, every September 8, which is the day it premiered in 1966!

When Star Trek first came on, and they used the, “transporter”, I initially thought it was demonize, and shut it off, promptly. Somehow I got over that. I remember buying a Tribble!

I went to many conventions in the 80’s! Even had a uniform, lol.

I still live in hope that we will develop a transporter in the new system! 😉
