Videoconference Identification

Recommended Posts

Videoconference, like Zoom, attendance is steady at our hall. The issue is some of the friends get new devices and at other times ones we do not recognize try to join with obscure identities, like device names or verbs, seriously. We have tried to educate the friends, with a high success rate. The ones with obscure identities, we send a message and ask them to change their identity to a recognizable one. If they do not change their identity, then it's a struggle whether to let them join.

Is your Hall successful in this difficulty? What are some ways your hall handles this in a firm and loving manner?

All the friends in my cong are properly using it. Probably because the brothers and sisters went to the place of the old members of the cong who aren't used to ZOOM and set it up for them so they don't have to do it again all the time.

We don't really worry about unrecognized identities. Even some of our regulars inadvertantly lose their name, and all we see is their device name. Many of our friends are "computer challenged" - they are doing well just to log on to Zoom at all!) Of course, if a Zoom participant was disruptive somehow, the Zoom host would immediately remove them. But in all our years of using Zoom, there has not been a single problem of this sort. We view it just as we would strangers walking in the door in person. Everyone is welcome (after passing scrutiny of our entrance attendant, of course).

Our policy is that as long as they behave they are welcome. Our meetings are public and if someone wishes to be anonymous they can absolutely be that.
We had no problems so far with that. Also we have many elderly and it can be challenging from time to time with the technology. So we are just happy that they try to attend best they can.
