Here in Upper Michigan, we’ve had the warmest winter…I think in history. Also, a lack of snow, definitely in comparison to last year where we got hammered.
Because of the warm weather, lakes are not covered with ice. Even if there is some ice it’s not strong enough to keep a person, let alone snowmobiles or ice shacks used for fishing.
With that being said, this news article shows how bad common sense is lacking and well, stupidity is thriving.
Naturally I feel bad that someone lost their life. But this could have been avoided.

DELTA COUNTY, Mich. (WLUC) - A South Carolina man is dead after snowmobiles went through the ice on Little Bay de Noc Sunday evening.
The Delta County Sheriff’s Office says it responded to two separate ice rescue calls over the weekend on Little Bay de Noc.
On Saturday at 6:25 a.m. dispatch received a call that a four-wheeler had gone through the ice and two people were in the water. Both people were able to get themselves out of the water and back to shore where they denied any medical treatment, the sheriff’s office reports.
On Sunday at 8:43 p.m. dispatch received a call of multiple people that had gone through the ice on snowmobiles and were in the water. Responders on scene were able to locate the people about a mile off of the Days River.
Rescuers have had to go out a few times to get people out of the water. Insanity!!!
