Brings back some old family memories from early 20th century. I emailed the memorial leaflet to my sis and she emailed back an old story I had long forgotten. It seems that my grandfather worked for Audrey's father at harvest time to support his colporteur/pioneer work. Grandfather knew Audrey when she was a little girl and loved to tell how she would sit on his lap after lunch. How time passes.

We cannot incite if we are not in sight.___Heb.10:24,25

This hit really close to home for us. Audrey and her family were long-time personal friends of ours. Way back in the late 40's, early 50's, the Mock family moved from Haxtun, Colorado to our town of Ft. Collins, CO and joined our tiny congregation. We loved Nina, the mother and Orille, her dad like they were our family. Audrey was actually pioneering with a sister from our tiny congregation at the time she got her call to go to Bethel. She came to Ft. Collins (FC) to sell her car, a model A Ford that she used pioneering in Kansas. Mind you, she hitchhiked  by herself from Colo. to NY back in 1945. Of course, all six of their kids came to FC to visit their parents. Curtis and Russell served at Bethel and Wayne was a Cir. Overseer. Her sister Ardis, lived in Cal. and her sister Clara lived in Denver. She was the only one who was not a Witness (until many years later). We were very close to Nina and Orille, they were our "Grandma and Grandpa" and we especially missed "Doc. Mock" as we always called him when he died in 1953 or 1954. From time to time, Bro. Knorr and Audrey would come to Colo. for vacation. Once when they came, Curtis and Wayne also came and we all (minus Bro Knorr) went on a long trail ride on horses in the mountains. Then when their mother passed away, the whole family came to the Memorial in our little KH. (We have pics of all this).

Fast forward to 1998, we took a 3 month trip back east and visited all the Society's properties. At the factory we had a long visit with Russell Mock, who was now the Factory Overseer. We reminisced about his dad's rock collection (he was a rock hound) and news of all the family. When we had lunch at Walkill, we got to spend time with Audrey. She was her smiling, happy self and we were very happy to have been able to visit with them again. I gave her copies of the old pictures we had in our books and she wanted to know about my Mom and Dad. What a host of happy memories we have of their family. Just wait until the new system and we'll have a great reunion!

Thank you for posting this, Chuck. I looked up her story in the WT - here is the link:

She must have had quite a sense of humor. I cracked up at this:

"Early during my service at Bethel, something very embarrassing happened to me. Having been raised in the rurals, I had no idea that a dumbwaiter was a small elevator that carried supplies from one floor to another. Well, one day I received a call at work requesting, “Send the dumbwaiter down, will you?” The caller quickly hung up, so I did not know what to do. But then I remembered that one of the brothers who lived on the floor that was part of my housekeeping assignment was a waiter. So I knocked on his door and said to him, “They want you down in the kitchen.”"

Hilarious!

(after I posted this I read the attached leaflet and saw the above story had been included. Sorry for the repeat!)

: "Just wait until the new system and we'll have a great reunion!"

Apparently, her mother accepted the truth in 1913 and was one of the anointed, but her father didn't accept the truth until 1939 and was of the other sheep class, as was Audrey herself. I guess although her mother and brother Knorr won't be there in person to share in joy of the resurrection of the family and the reunion, she will no doubt see her second husband, and possibly have the opportunity of being reunited with him in marriage, if that's their desire.

Life can throw us some strange twists and turns, but as Jehovah's people we have a sure hope for the future and can always be looking forward, as did Audrey. Although we might look back with fond memories of our joys in Jehovah's service with our family and friends, the best days of our lives are still ahead of us!
