Unsurprisingly, however, researchers worldwide are highly skeptical of the proposal. Talking to CNN, Arthur Caplan, PhD, director of medical ethics and NYU Langone Medical Center in New York, NY, even called Dr. Canavero "nuts."

Caplan said the procedure needs to be conducted many more times on animals before it is applied to humans, adding that if the technique is feasible then Dr. Canavero should be trying to help paralyzed patients before attempting whole body transplants.

And talking to New Scientist earlier this year, Harry Goldsmith, a clinical professor of neurosurgery at the University of California-Davis, said the project is so "overwhelming" that it is the chances of it going ahead are unlikely.

"I don't believe it will ever work," he added, "there are too many problems with the procedure. Trying to keep someone healthy in a coma for 4 weeks - it's not going to happen."

My wife raised the question is this a case of a body getting a new head, or a head getting a new body?

In the second case it would be a full body transplant.

I love John, too. I don't know who that is, but that's okay.

:D

Sorry, I should have explained.

When someone posts a link, Qapla (John) will usually remind us that we need to give an explanation about the link so he can decide if he wants to open it or not. I think he will appreciate your earlier post

This is just ridiculous science.  The procedure would be planned to use 150 doctors.  even if you could get the nerve bundles to heal next to each other i don't see how the brain could make the connection right.  even if it could you have to take anti rejection drugs the rest of your life. and another issue is thats someone elses body: heart/ kidneys/ liver/ bowels/ intestines.  they all have a bearing on how you experience emotions and personality and memory.s.   I don't think you'd be left with the original person at all.
