IKEA mattress

Recommended Posts

Thank you! I feel an IKEA trip coming on....words which will fill my husband with fear and dread like no other...

My DH was happy to go to IKEA after I took him to look at a Duxiana mattress. Lol.

Prior to the IKEA mattress, we had an top quality one made here in USA. I was able to successfully get a free manufacturer replacement since it had "lifetime" spring warranties. However, the replacement wasn't the same quality and was never as comfortable as the original. If you haven't tried, see if you qualify for a replacement. That might buy enough time to find the mattress you really want.

We have a Smith & Kerns..no wait..that's a drink..

We have a Fosters...no wait..that's a beer..

We have a Sterns...no wait..that's a life preserver..

We have a Sterns and Foster mattress pillow top and regretted buying it a long time go. The box spring is breaking and the mattress has dips in it even when we aren't on it..

I guess I cannot comment on this thread since we have not had to change the mattress in over 30 years.

We do NOT have any dips, lumps or other type of problems.

We have a king size water bed

I'm sorry. I didn't really make a recommendation because you need to go and test the mattresses in store to see which ones you like best. But I got a spring mattress with a pillow top style topper.

They don't make the model we bought any longer but I think the Hallen is the closest match.

That Sultan mattress kept cropping up in the on line reviews as being fantastic, they don't sell it in the UK though, just to complicate things!

We bought the pillow top separately. I like that system best because you can replace the topper portion at a lower cost on a more frequent basis and still have a nice mattress beneath. Plus it allows you to select a topper that fits your needs that you rotate between.

Hey Tammi not only can you mix and match it Your way, you can even add a slatted bed base into the mix to fine tune your sleeping comfort!   ... http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/categories/departments/bedroom/24827/

So Anna you can get the least inexpensive mattress and an inexpensive foundation plus a slatted bed base (with legs too) then add a Top Quality Topper for a fully customized sleeping experience!

Hahaha I didn't notice that! I just clicked on your link to one specific mattress.

Yes, Tim, that's what attracted us to the idea. I went to the store quite a few times before I really bought into the system. But what attracted me was an accident that happened on my old mattress. A guest had an accident in bed. While I wanted to toss the mattress after the fact, due to the expense, I could not. So, I cleaned it as best I could and flipped it over.

Now, with a separate pillow topper, I can afford to toss it (if necessary) and replace out and a fraction of the cost.

I have read reviews from people that got the high-priced memory foam ones and see that people say they get "too hot" at night as the mattress holds in the heat (that would be bad for us who need cooler temps for sleeping or who suffer from hormonal night sweats!).

My hubby likes to sleep in the middle of the queen size bed - he is in the bed so much that it has definitely dipped in the center - making it absolutely awful for anyone else to sleep in it.  But years ago, due to him getting up and down all the time and messing up my sleep, I moved into the other bedroom so I would not have to be a zombie the next morning.  It saved our marriage!  LOL

Tammi the concept is interesting, the only drawback I see and therefore ask is their any "shifting' of the Topper?

****  hey Mods   ***   I can't do multiple quotes  ??  ... nor does clicking on the dot or star on the left of the thread topic bring me to the last post read!  ??

might it have something to do with this?   >>>  http://jwtalk.net/forums/topic/24727-a-new-jwtalk-for-2016/page-4

Nope. We've never had a problem. Just be sure you use deep pocket fitted sheets as the shallow ones won't work.
