Interesting to note how politician Tim Farron has decided to resign due to it not being compatible with his Christian faith.

We as JWs know that the two aren't compatible but it struck me as a nice change that a non-JW came to the same conclusion.

What is not surprising are the comments by religious leader, the acting Bishop of London (Peter Broadbent) said:

Quote

"no-one should have to choose between their faith and politics" and it was "deeply regrettable" he felt the need to quit.

Whereas Tim stated:

Quote

"To be a leader, particularly of a progressive liberal party in 2017 and to live as a committed Christian and to hold faithful to the Bible's teaching has felt impossible for me."

So there's the contrast between an ordinary member of the public and a supposed spiritual leader. The world is indeed messed up!

It's bigger on the inside!

The issue came up because he was leader of the Liberal Democrats and has been grilled on his views on homosexuality and abortion (ironically leaders from other parties who are also Christian were hardly questioned on their views which are probably quite similar). Although he politically has always stood up for people's personal rights in this regard he was publicly demonised for privately holding traditional Christian views on these issues. Of course Tim Farron may or may not have realised that being a Christian requires compromises if you want to be a politician - one of the many reasons why we should not get involved with politics. On the other hand I guess he is truly Liberal (as in the modern definition of liberalism) in a sense that he didn't agree but still stood up for people's rights to do those things. Shows the hypocrisy of many so called Liberal people - And another reason why humans can't rule themselves for toffee!
