all things star trek

Recommended Posts

Renee, I didn’t even think to ask you if you had ever watched “Star Trek Continues” on YouTube. I didn’t discover it until a few years ago. It’s a continuation of TOS, the episodes that bring us to the end of the five year mission. I loved it. If anything embodies the spirit of Star Trek, this is it. It even has Michael Forest, who played Apollo, in the first episode, and the daughter of Joanna Linley, who played the Romulan Commander in ‘The Enterprise Incident.’ She reprises her mother’s role.

When the doors open up and “Admiral” Kirk comes onto the bridge for the last time, I almost cried!

Star Trek Continues

Try to start with “Pilgrim of Eternity,” where Apollo (“Who Mourns for Adonais?”) appears. :)

I grew up on Voyager and it's still my favorite. It's the most PG13 of the main series.

TOS: swashbuckling. The whole point is the Kirk, Spock, Bones dynamic and we all know it.

TNG: philosophical. From the very first episode it is full of episodes with commentary on humanity, progress, and ethics with plenty of debate as they explore.

DS9: spiritual/sexual. almost entirely character driven storylines and conflict between science and faith. Lots of romantic entanglements.

Voyager: optimistic. It's the most sanitized series. Doesn't get too dark, good character growth, and a lot of mentor relationships that explore what it means to be human as they try to get back to Earth. Also, fun holodeck episodes.

Enterprise: nostalgic references. One of the best storyline arcs, but atrocious character development and disappointing ending. It was cancelled and the last episode is terrible.

I would watch them in that order. You can appreciate the references in Enterprise after seeing the other series.

Side note: I hate the mirror universe so much!

I saw the first TV episode when it aired on September 8, 1966 - from that point on I liked the show

I like most of the various spinoffs but not all of them. When they got away from actual stories and started writing "agendas", I lost interest
