Clevis pin with hair pin

Patinage

Recommended Posts

Hi Friends, I need your help...

I have to install a recliner for my Mom and there is a clevis pin w/hair pin that I have to remove in order to attach the back of the recliner to the seat, and then put it back when the back of the recliner is finally mounted.

I have no clue on how to remove this hair pin (which includes a return, like a closed return to secure the hair pin on the clevis pin).

I have tried with a flat screwdriver to release the hair pin but it doesn't work.

Could you please help? If you had images, even better...

Hairpin includes a spring wire ZY...

Do you have pictures?

It sounds like the hairpin is a cotter pin. If one of the legs are bent you will need to straighten it and then use pliers to pull it out.

You should be able to grab the hairpin with pliers and pull it out of the hole. Google cotter pins...

Thanks for the PDF!

Your picture looks like it has a hitch pin clip, so the pliers should work, however it is hard to tell from the picture.

The other day, it took me an hour or so to deal with this 'hair pin'... and I ruined the pin with the pliers because now it won't lock...

Please try to get a better picture if you can. I don't want you to ruin the pin.

Hold the camera further away so it can focus and try to take a couple of different angles.

By the way, they are also known as bow tie locking cotters...

See below p.17-18

Oh! I see. I'm not familiar with them, however I did find a video that says they are easily removed by lifting one side. So you shouldn't need pliers or a screwdriver.

DONE!!!! I can't believe it!

The video was a big help!!! Thank you!

On paper it seems so easy, then reality is else.

But in this case, it IS easy... when you do the right moves...

No tools, no hassle, in a few seconds, the pin is removed and/or installed. Great breakthrough!
